Is it possible to get a VCR and connect it to a canopus ADVC 100 or 300 unit then connect it to a stand alone DVD recorder, so as the Canopus can filter, improve the analog signal before recording the final output to the DVD Recorder?
Or will it only work when connected to your computer and you convert VHS to DVD that way?

That's not the purpose for the ADVC, unless you have a need for analog to digital conversion you don't need it. Only the ADVC 300 can "enhance" the video. It has a line TBC. Using the 100 would not have any effect.
If your purpose for buying a ADVC is to improve the signal look into getting a regular TBC instead.

The ADVC-100 will improve the quality if you're talking about
removing m****vision while recording from the VHS tape.
I don't know if that's what you had in mind when you posted!

I'm curious if mine works, it's thew newest on the market. What do you do turn it on and hold the input switch for 15 seconds or something like that?

The DVD recorder has similar hardware to the ADVC-100. Both will decode NTSC or PAL to YUV and A/D to a digital stream. The DVD recorder will encode straight to MPeg2.
The ADVC-100 will convert to a DV stream and will transfer that through IEEE-1394 to the DVR (assuming it has IEEE-1394 in) The DVR would then convert the DV stream to MPeg2.
You would need to test which alternative decodes NTSC/PAL better and which has overall superior performance.
The ADVC-300 has additional benefits inluding limited TBC and proc amp that may prove a benefit.
