Anyone know of a PCI TV Card that can save directly to a DVD rather than a hard drive?

    Thanks,

I'm yet to see such a technology... I don't think it exists, at least not in a reliable version.

It isn't so much the hardware but the software that you use with it. Ulead DVD Workshop 2 can capture straight to DVD from whatever capture device you have. It may still cache it to the hard drive though, I don't know. A trial download is available from www.ulead.com.

No, there is not such a thing from what I know. Better get a desktop standalone DVD Recorder if you wish to do this. They are cheap now!

You can supposedly do it with the AverMedia DVD EZMaker PCI and NeoDVD Standard (which is the software that comes with the card). But I haven't tried it to see if it works.

This card isn't a TV card but an analogue capture card. However, if neoDVD can do it with an incoming video stream from an external source, there doesn't seem to be any reason why it won't do it if you are using a TV card instead. I read somewhere that neoDVD had been developed in conjunction with Ulead so probably uses the same technology as DVD Workshop 2.

The simple answer is, yes it can be done (but try a trial version of the software and a RW disk first in case it doesnt work as well as you hoped!).

The Leadtek WinFast TV2000XP Expert PCI card has this feature.
Still seeing how well it works!! However last night I was able to capture directly to DVD a short (10 min) clip from the cards TV tuner and it it burnt it directly to disc. It created DVD compliant files (video_ts & audio_ts ) and burnt them directly to the DVD. It also creates/burns a third file video_rt, not sure what its for??
I can only assume that it caches during capture as it only writes to disc after the capture has finished.
This short "experiment" was done with the included LeadTek PVR software.
It should be noted that my capture settings were:
352x480, 700/4000kbps VBR, audio appears to be MPEG II.
The software will also create a menue (haven't tried that yet) oddly the menues are from Ulead DVDMovie Factory, which was included with the Leadtek card.
Burnt DVD played well on my Toshiba 2800 player.

Yes it is possible, and available.

The ADS usb IntantDvd2/DvdExpress products with the capwiz ver 3.5 or later have a true DTD (direct to disc) option. It does NOT utilize the hard drive at all. AFIK, this software feature was developed/added in conjunction with Ulead. Older ver of Ulead also had a "Direct to Disc" option but it was NOT true DTD but an automated sequence of steps. The latest ver of Ulead should incorporate the new true DTD method.
THERE IS NO HARD DISK ACTIVITY AT ALL, real time capture/write + 2-3 minutes to finalize the disc.

Oops. My bad on TV capture card. I always just think of hooking it up through my VCR and using the VCR's tuner.

Thanks for all of your input - which seems to boil down to the Leadtek WinFast TV2000XP Expert PCI card. This is the only PCI Tv card that will do the job (I hope).

    Thanks again!

Either a fast computer or a hardware MPeg2 encoder (e.g. PVR 150) would be required for realtime DVD MPeg2 recording to disk on a PC. Directly recording that to a DVD is possible but a bit of a stretch.

DVD recorders do this all in hardware.
