  1. Here's my problem. I have Roxio 7 with the latest patch (I bought it before I read bad things about it here) and am getting interlace-like, strobe-like, flickery (for lack of better terms) video when Roxio encodes from any video source. I am using home-recorded DVDs (no commercially pressed stuff) and a MiniDV camcorder.

Here's when I get this problem:

From DVD to mpeg back out to DVD using Roxio capture
From MiniDV to mpeg out to DVD using Roxio capture

As long as the file goes through the Roxio encoder, the problem is there.

If I use Roxio to capture direct from MiniDV to the PC (using Firewire), then capture from the .avi back out direct to the MiniDV (as long as the file stays in .avi format), there is no problem.

I've tried TMPGEnc (the free version, all default settings) to encode the .avi files from MiniDV to mpeg and the result is BEAUTIFUL...no problem.

All mpeg encoded files are very similar is size to each other and settings are all the same (bitrate, etc)

Is this a known defect in the Roxio encoder? Can anything be done about it?

Is there any RETAIL (that I can buy at CompUSA, Best Buy, etc) all-in-one package similar to Roxio that doesn't have this funky encoding? Trying different software is next to impossible due to return policies. I'd like to be able to use the software to encode the individual titles I've already burned to DVD like Roxio lets you do (without doing the whole DVD contents). Again, I'd like this to be available retail.

Thanks for everyone's time and help!

Not familiar with Roxio's encoder software but if you have a setting for changing the field order, reverse the order from whatever it's currently set to. DV source should be bottom field first. (BFF)
