Hie!
I have 4 VOB files..and 4 vob files only:
Vob file: Converted from: Size:
======================================
1. VTS_01_1.vob Lord of ring CD1-2.mpg 750 MB
2. VTS_01_1.vob Lord of ring CD2-2.mpg 750 MB
3. VTS_01_1.vob Scream 3 CD1-2.mpg 820 MB
3. VTS_01_1.vob Scream 3 CD2-2.mpg 750 MB
======================================
These 4 vob files are ofcource not in the same directory..
Now..usually I rename the first vob file into 001, 002, 003, 004
and then join clips whit VOB EDIT..then Create ifo files whit IFOEDIT.
BUT..i want to create chapters..not a menu..just chapters..becuase
when i push >> it doesnt work on my dvd player becuase all is just
one big movie ..dispite there is 3-4 vob files
so Ive tried to do this and rename to:
VTS_01_1.vob
VTS_02_1.vob
VTS_03_1.vob
VTS_04_1.vob
thats 4 chapters..and one movie in every chapter..if i understood it corectly..but i cant use ifoedit or vobedit on these files when they are renamed in that way..So what in the GODS name must i do? when i have 4 files...and want 4 chapters? should i join them ? or how do i just create ifo & bup files automaticly so it says that there is 4 chapters?

A wild guess then
I would name VOBs thus
LOTR CD1 -> VTS_01_1.VOB
LOTR CD2 -> VTS_01_2.VOB
Scream CD1 -> VTS_02_1.VOB
Scream CD2 -> VTS_02_2.VOB
Get the drift? VTS_01_xx = 1st movie, VTS_02_xx = 2nd movie etc.
Then I'd author them using DVDLab - see excellent gudie by Reboot.
NOTE:
Audio & Video streams must match for both movies if placing on 1 DVD, unless you place them in speparate root folders (see guide).
Your individual VTS's are NOT chapters! Chapter info held in IFO files generated by the authoring tool - you have to specify chapters etc.
I think this is what you're after...

Use TMPGENC DVD Author, placing each file in the same track. Each will become a chapter. Use the 'no menu' option in the program, if you don't want one. Then have the program create new vobs in the required DVD structure.

I think you're totally confused (or I am!)
A VOB doesn't equal a chapter.
VTS_01_1.vob Lord of ring CD1-2.mpg is not a VOB file - it's an mpeg file. The same goes for the others.
Just author them with TMPGEnc DVD Author. The LOTR mpegs to one title, the Scream mpegs to another title. And I suggest a main menu to select between the two.
This is, if they are DVD compliant mpegs.

Ah - I see - please disregard my post. (How do you create VOBs from mpg if not using a DVD authoring app? This makes no sense at all?!?) But again, just author the original mpegs with TMPGEnc DVD Author if they are DVD compliant. If not, (they are SVCD mpegs, which I think is likely in this context) run them thru svcd2dvdmpg first.

I daresay you'd get much much better results and find it much easier to backup your original DVDs
If in doubt, Google it.

Now, why didn't I think of that?

like andy suggested..but when I try to create ifo & buf files whit ifo edit it only goes through the vts_01 and totalt ignores vts_02 files.
By the way...ive tried tempenc dvd author..and that program doesnt work for me..EVERYTIME i add a movie in there it eaither complaints about the size or color or something..
So how do I make ifo edit follow up on the vts_02 files as well? :/

Well..what I REALLY want most av all is to have menu..

Backup to where you have your source files. Find out what they are. VCD? SVCD? DVD? None of the above?
If they are not DVD compliant, make them compliant by reencoding (yes, this takes time, and degrades quality), or make them appear so with SVCD2DVDMPG (if it's SVCD - this takes no time at all). Then author with TMPGenc DVD Author.
You can't take just any mpg file you find and expect it to be suitable and accepted as source material for a video DVD.

vts_01_01.vob

vts_02_01.vob
vts_02_02.vob

...until you give the specifics of those mpeg files, I can't help you - you're trying to fix things in the wrong end of the process: Get your source material right before continuing. Get latest GSpot, load one of those mpg files, and post a screen shot. (Blurring the file names, if needed...)

Jeeeesus!
VOB's Avi's, MOV's etc. etc. are containers. They hold video and audio information (sometimes called streams) - & sometimes other stuff. The video 'stream' and audio 'stream' is combined into a container (a playable file) by 'multiplexing' them together - 99% of the time usually interlaced - i.e a snippet of video followed by a snipped of audio followed by a snippet of video etc. etc.
The annoying thing to note is that the Audio stream is NOT 'bound' to the Video stream i.e. they are NOT synchronised. Usually what happens is that the start of the audio multiplexed track is offset in time to start when the video starts and hence appear in sync. Hence many posts on this forum regarding 'audio sync problems'.
Hence Demultiplexing a container file such as a VOB extracts the Audio and Video streams into individual files. An unnecessary step if going from TmgpEnc to TmpgEnc DVD Author (I think).
Now a VOB file is just a container but for it to be DVD compliant then the Video Stream must use either MPEGI or MPEGII codecs that use a frame rate & frame size that is of a DVD standard. Same goes for Audio. This is why TmegEnc offers the ability to create MPEGs of 'type' DVD i.e. they will cohere to the DVD standard.
Next easist route to then create a DVD is to then bung it into TmpgEnc DVD Author.
BTW, DVD Lab ain't bad - read the guide by Reboot - menu creation etc is soooooo simple, but I don't mean to upset you if you are struggling.
Going the VOB / IFO edit route - sounds like hard work to me and if your VOB files are not DVD compliant you're pissing into the wind!
Hope this helps somewhat,

"hm..that document looks like it would be to much help..thanx alot man =)"
Go on, give it a try. You know you want to!
I think if you got to know the basics of DVDLab you will be better off because the 'basics' in DVDLab actually get you quite far & you'll end up with a cool DVD of YOUR creation.

DVDLab will..
Accept VOBs
Or streams
Or create streams from VOBs for you (MPV & MPA, takes just a few mins).
(A VERY good idea to let DVDLab do this for you as guide suggests).
Give it any of the above and it will create all DVD info (VOBs / IFOs) based on the menus & chapters (whatever) you create.

Mats suggested you (Blurring the file names, if needed...) for a damn good reason BTW.
Warez is not tolerated here because you will get this excellent forum into trouble - 'we' cannot be seen to encourage ppl to use ripped films etc.
You are, however a noob but please bear this in mind!
You have been warned & it would be a shame if you were to get banned.

That version of GSpot isn't any good for mpegs. Get 2.5 beta.
And bazooka - let the mods decide who gets help and not, huh?
<edit>They've already did, I see!</edit>
