  1. This may have been answered elsewhere on this forum but I AM a newbie and wondered if anyone could direct me to the proper plug-in. I want to edit some of my own DVD movies (vob files) and have all the software setup except for one minor thing: I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro and MainConcepts MPEG Pro Plug in for Adobe - everything's great except MPEG Pro Plug in does not support AC3 audio. They tell me they are working on the software but who know when it'll be ready. I'd like to edit the dvd without the problems the occur with decompression/recompression, that's why if AC3 was supported it would be perfect. Is there another plug in that will allow me to do this with Premiere Pro or another editing software that will allow me to edit without any loss in video or audio quality? All the converters I've tried pretty much destroy the quality after conversion. Thank you. Michael

Editing in MPeg2 is no picnic.

With Adobe Premiere Pro and MainConcepts MPEG Pro Plug in for Adobe you have the best commercial solution in the sub $1000 level for the video half.

For AC-3 you could decode to the individual 6 channels and re-encode with an AC-3 encoder but as you say, decompression/recompression is not optimal. Maybe a DVD authoring program that will import an existing AC-3 file would solve your problem.

Thanks for responding. Can you suggest an authoring progam that I could try?

    I haven't attempted that yet.

    Maybe Encore will do it

My Vegas 5 + DVD imports sound mixes OK and encodes AC-3

Vegas 5 itself will not open an AC-3 file

I can't tell you if DVD architect 2 will at this time

    >> edit: Architect 2 will import AC-3 files per above " DVD Architect software also imports AC-3 files for the creation of multichannel 5.1 DVDs." Haven't done it myself yet, just the direct mix.

I'm pretty sure the the upper end Sonic packages will do it since they have a segmented workflow focus.
