I've been following a guide to make good VCD's (one's which will play on an older stand-alone player, so no KVCD's etc), and it said to use Virtualdub to frameserve the .avi file. So i create a signpost file, named it x.avi, then tried to open it in TMPGEnc- it says " can't open x.avi, or file unsupported". What I'm doing wrong? And on a kind of un-related note, my WMP series 10 won't play .wmv files now either! Everything else works fine, but I recently installed an Xvid codec pack, so how can I check/manage my codecs?

have you setup virtual dubs frameserver previously where it will register its routines? you might have done that when you installed it.

Yeah, looks like you were right, I managed to get Virtualdub to frameserve to TMPGEnc, just have to wait for the results
Can anyone help me with my codec problem, it's annoying to have Windows Media Player 10 not be able to play it's own format (windows media audio/video). Would uninstalling and re-installing media player help? Or perhaps another codec? How would I check/delete which codecs I have?
