  1. My Divxx file (680 MB) doesnt write properly as it has damaged frames. Virtualdub identified 128 of them. Used Virtualdub to mask them out and "saved as" an AVI file.

The AVI file was over 25 GB and was only half done, then computer ran out of hard disk space.

Q1. is this write, or am I doing something wrong.
Q2 If I end up with an AVI file of say 50GB, will DVD writing software put this back to a DVD.
Q3 Or is there a better way.

    Thanks in advance

i had a similiar incident with an .AVI file. I had to make sure that "direct Stream Processing" was selected on both the video and audio options. That retained my file sizes. Maybe it will work for you?

  3. 69mako is right - you need to make sure you have Direct Stream Copy selected, as otherwise VirtualDub is decoding the video and outputting it uncompressed (hence the huge file size).

If you do this, the resulting file should be a similar size to the input file (i.e. one-CD sized avi).

Your DVD encoding/authoring software should accept this file as an input if it can take avi's in general. N.B. that it will need to be encoded to MPEG2 before it can be authored as a DVD (and the audio may need to be converted) but depending on what software you are using, the file that VirtualDub outputs should be okay to use as a source.

If you continue to have problems, post a screengrab of gSpot for the AVI file so that we can see what you're working with (but you may want to blot out the filename with Paint etc.. - see the AUP of this site)... and tell us exactly what DVD writing software you are using.

    cheers.
    theDruid.
