  1. Hello,

I found many guides for going from dvd->dvdr, etc

    I have a simpler task:

I made my own dvd using an LVW-5005, a VHS tape and a DVD+R.

Now I want to make more copies of this home video DVD(+R).

I have a sony laptop that can burn dvds. How can I use it to make
copies of my dvdr? Ie, which software should I use?

No fancy conversion/re-coding etc needed! A simple copy would suffice.
    Ie, DVDR-> HD -> DVDR

    Thanks,
    PM000

What burning software do you have ?
As there is no copy protection, and burning program that can copy an unprotected DVD should work.

I would use DVDdecrypter. Rip to iso then burn to iso. Free quick and simple.

ladyb1998 & Bodyslide offers simple solutions

you can also copy those files onto your HD as you would any data file. Burn the files using any DVD burning software if you any but don't have Nero

This is fast clean and easy all you need is about 5 gigs of harddrive space.

Nero is too bloated for something like this IMHO.

Edit: Mack i didn't see your post I started typing mine and i had to answer the door then some called on the phone then I posted what I typed.

    GOD HOW HARD IS THIS?

    HONESTLY?

    1. Put disc in DVD-ROM. Put blank in burner.

    2. Hit "copy" on ANY DAMN DVD PROGRAM.

    ARGH!

  8. Actually,

I tried using dvd decrypter, imgtools, etc

The copy I made doesnt work correctly in the lvw5005 !

I get all sorts of weird errors. The video plays, but the
time index doesnt advance. Also, I get error video
at the beginning of each chapter.

I found that intervideo dvdcopy works great for backing up dvdr.

Actually, there's nothing better/more reliable than DVDDecrypter ISO read/ISO write for this kind of situation. Once you've read out to ISO, you can make any # of copies quick and efficiently.

  14. Dear Gurm,

    1. I do not have 2 DVD drives to be able to implement the easy solution you mention.
    2. I am *NOT* a retard. I have copied several CDs before.
    3. With DVDs, the process seems a lot more involved when you have a laptop with only 1 drive and many incompatible formats. You need to copy to HD and then back to DVD. Except, I *DID* do that using dvddecrypter.

The only reason for my post here was because apparently that didnt make an exact copy. The originall works well in my dvd players and my copy doesnt.

I hope this explains why I posted an apparently
    silly question!

Thanks to all those who responded. I will try the steps again!

That is one of the least sucessful ways i have done of straight copying a DVD-r.

The most reliable way i have used is with DVD Decrypter.

Plutoman.....just a thought...have you got the most recent version of DVD Decrypter?

If this doesnt work try ripping with DVD Shrink, then use decrypter to burn....

Put the one that you want to copy in your burner, and select copy in your burning program. It will read the disc and then the drive door will open. At this time, you put in your blank and close the drive door. You will then be on your way.

Perhaps the problem is the media?

If you do ISO->READ then ISO->WRITE in DVD Decrypter, and the written copy isn't working, then the problem is one of the following:

    1. Media
    2. Burn speed
    3. Media
    4. Your set-top player
    5. Media
    6. Did I mention media?

I had a similar problem trying to copy a dvd-r (homevideo) with dvd decrypter. I forget what was the error messege. So I used dvdshrink to create the iso image and burn it with dvddecrypter.
When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!!

if you are going to be so condascending, how about at least not assuming your list is exhaustive...

one other thing i can think of immediately is the laser lens, conditions inside the PC box or whether any other app is running in ta background

oops sorry that was three more....

I am TRYING to help the OP.

As i said in my previous post, if Decrypter dont work use Shrink to rip disk and then whatever (decrypter is easiest IMO) to burn.

What GURM said is true. If ISO Read/Write yields a coaster, the problem is likely elsewhere. Typically media. Maybe the player. (Not burn speed.) Maybe firmware (less likely).

He's not being "condascending" ... he's trying to get the point across that MEDIA is the #1 most likely problem. Media media media media media media media... nothing "condascending" about repeating it a couple times.

Sometimes DVD Decrypter messes up the menu programming of badly authored DVD's I had this experience wHen I backed up the original Goodfellas DVD release. It was a really early DVD and the makers had no idea what they were doing.

It has the worst menus of any Big Hollywood studio DVD I have ever seen. And they put it on two single layer discs instead of one double layer.

DVD Decrypter also messed up the menu programming of some smalltime straight to video independant DVD release. I don't remember which ones.

I used DVD Shrink and it worked fine.

DVD Decrypter is too strong for it's own good every once in a while.

But the problems only seems to occur on DVD with badly programmed menus.

If there's a problem with the laser, switching to Shrink isn't going to do you any good - since Shrink will ONLY BURN WITH NERO OR DVD DECRYPTER!

  23. You know what, I remember now: there WAS a problem when I initially used dvd decrypter to transfer my files to the PC.
There were 6 files in my dvd that were meant to be copied. However, after the last one was "copied" fully, dvddecrypter was still trying to do something. and it stalled for a long time.
I checked the sizes of the 6 files on my HD, and they matched the file sizes of the ones on the dvd. Ie, I hit cancel and dvd decrypter said 5 files copied and 1 file skipped or something like that! I thought this was strange because I saw that all 6 files were copied and the kb sizes matched.
Perhaps the 6th file was NOT copied, but the directory entry was made nevertheless. I don't know.
Maybe this is the source of the problem.

Incidentally, I HAD used dvd shrink to try and copy this dvd earlier, but it said it coudlnt read the dvd for some reason. thats why i went directly to decrypter.

Let me re-check all of this and post what I find.

Incidentally, the dvd was made from PAL home
    videos on VHS.

I used a multisystem vcr player, captured the
video onto a dvdr using my new LVW5005.
The original dvdr made seems to work ok.

However, whenever I put a dvdr made by the
lvw5005 into my pc, and use a dvd player, it
shows double the number of titles! (12 instead of
    6, 14 instead of 7, etc)

Perhaps the lvw5005 is not writing in a universally
compatible format? (eg, dvd shrink had problems with it?)

  26. Hi, I have a very simple question ...
I did several back ups of dvd-r simply using dvd decrypter.
The last one I try to do only left me a folder ISO and a folder MDS but did not have the folder dvd or the lO1
Since I thougth that may be I made a mistake, i did it again and the same thing happened.
żDoes anyone knows what may happened and how do I solve this?

The other method that I tried before was using dvd decrypter in file mode, selecting all the chapters, created a VIDEO_TS and a AUDIO_TS folder and burn them with Nero. Everything went fine, the only problem is that using this method the Pioneer set top dvd players will no play my back ups.
Doing it using only dvd decrypter to download to my hard drive and them burn them using again dvd decrypter worked fine in all set top dvds, but I do not why this time this folders are missing!!!

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Thank you

  27. sounds like media. check the media list in the left tool bar. I've had luck using cheap media (GQ) if I burn at 1x. I have sony, panasonic and apex players, and Philips DVD-rw set top units, all are very compatible with most media.

Nether the iso nor the mds are folders, but a DVD image, that should be burned back to DVD using DVDDecrypter. This is what you get when you rip in ISO Read mode with Decrypter. The iso is a "container" that, if you mount it with daemon tools, in this case will reveal a VIDEO_TS folder inside with the VOBs, IFOs and BUPs inside.
