my sound isn't working! device manager told me i needed a driver for a "multimedia audio controller".

so, i used AIDA32 to identify my soundcard. it lists my "audio adapters" as 1.) MPU-401-compatible, and 2.) VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller. so i downloaded the drivers for both.

but my sound still doesn't work. device manager now shows under "sound, video, and game controllers" that i have an MPU-401-compatible MIDI Device, a VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM), but also it shows "Audio Codecs" and "Legacy Audio Drivers" so I'm thinking that some of these are conflicting with each other? does anyone have any ideas?

You need to adjust the audio properties and the volume level in the control panel.

No need to snap, dude. We're here to help. The Via controller is the one on the motherboard, so connect your cable to the GREEN connector on your mobo.

Excuse my vulgarity, which is strictly casual. I meant no offense. Both of you guys have offered help to me in the past and I am a man of gratitude.

Which cable am I connecting to the green connector?

See what I mean ? I understand your frustration, but I knew this was gonna happen.

Your 1/8" speaker cable from your speakers. Plug it into the green 1/8" speaker plug on your motherboard - right by the USB connectors in back.

    Have you tried here already?

Also, in the future, in the interest of saving time and frustration. Post what you've tried and what you haven't tried. That saves us all some time.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Let me give you some free advice.

You never get hostile with the people helping you.

If you do like you did with me, people will not help you anymore.

    You got that.
