    Flash drive of some description.

I recently bought a digital camera that uses XD cards - a 512Mb one is little bigger than my thumb nail, and 1g ones are around the corner and will be the same size.

1g on something the size of a dime!
    Regards,

    Rob

It may be in Terrabytes 10+ years down the road, or less.

Not might. Will be. With 8 gigs on a 60nm die now tested and
4 gigs on a 80nm die in mass production now, think of what
    8 nm will give you?

a lot of M & N's? J/K I know it's going to happen at some point, but I also consider the time I find it cost efficent enough for me to purchase one. I'm stingy about paying $60 for a 150 GB 7200 RPM high end seagate IDE drive. I always ask if there's a factory refurbished unit with warranty.

That was a DEAL too. Back then I use to go over Computer Shopper (the behemoth of days gone by, not the 'pamphlet' it's become) before making any computer purchase.

My Handi-cam weighs the same or less than a HDD. Unless it's a laptop HDD, there's no way I'm putting one in a camera. I got tendonitis from the bulky full size VHS cameras in the 80's.

With the way I'd set the graphics & resolution on it, I'd only have 30-60 minutes.

We just got to get companies to lower the cost of bandwidth so they aren't raping people as hard in the a**. I find it funny that I had a 14.3k modem in the early days, and later upgraded to a 56k modem. All I had to do was purchase new hardware, but my connection cost was always the same. Why do they have to increase the cost to have the higher connection. If they're going to increase the cost, the least and ISP could do is upgrade their technology so there isn't as much network traffic & congestion. Many of the companies that are 5 years old, still use the same technology & servers from 5-8 years ago. Most of these companies have had plenty of ability, money, and time to do it. Instead the money went into a bunch of CEOs pockets. There's a big think with COX communications out here regarding that specific type of scenario and they are being hevily investigated for it.

yeah i know exactly what you are saying. i use cox myself. and there's not much i can do since they are the major player in town. but here enters the new players. wireless. it might swing towards the cell phone companys or it could be through a brand new company. whoever can get the towers up that can broadcast high speed internet throughout the citys is gonna be the next giant. land based internet will be dead some day. thats just my thought though

I don't know if it'll ever go dead, but I do think it will fade down as time passes. Somewhat like telephones have done with Celular technology. Cell tech. has gone way down in cost and is now quite similarly priced with regular phones. On the flip side, wired phones have also had extreme reduction of costs. I honestly remember when $.35 per min. was a bargain. Cell phones were $80 a month, just for the service. The prices per minute were outstandingly high, and you really did not want to be caught roaming. I do hope wireless will be advancing, but I do see a lot of corporate businesses blocking streaming technology from happening faster than it can.

kinda the same reason we are still drivin' gas cars right?

nah, i dont think they can block it for all that long. i think most realize that. but i think it's new companys coming in that are going to be the winners. just like aol tried to hold on and not change and they are holding by the smallest of threads right now. if the corp's dont change they are going to drown because somebody is going to be smart enough to take the first step.

I agree with you, but I still think the MPAA & RIAA will have some coronary about it and start going after companies that allow streaming. Honestly, that's the technology I would like to see hit fast. But again, I think the unethical corporate Hollywood feels they need to milk as much money from people as possible first.

As talked about in previous threads, I feel copyright holders deserve their FAIR SHARE of money, but once a reasonable period of time has ended, new material needs to be done. Look at magicians as an example. Many of them do the same tricks over and over with different props, or try to do them faster than anyone's done before. But it is still the same old trick, and it gets boring after time. Someone finds a way to improve upon it, but can do nothing because of copyright, while the old magician sits back and just gets lazy off of money for something that's practically gone the way of the dodo. Poor example, but it gets the point across.
