Oh well maybe I was just lucky and got one of the remaining DVD's in stock, there has to be some other use for the DVD other than just upgrading the hard drive, Pioneer did say to me today that they have no method of upgrading the firmware on the existing DVD to make it more compatible with the newer media, however there is formware for the the A07 on the web site if the drive were attached to a PC....... Anyone wanna toss a coin?

I bet IF you do that it will no longer recognize the burner. But the worst part for you would be you won't be able to flash it back. Because the firmware contained in the burner in the machine is very different from that used on the pc types.
IF your actually going to try it, and I wouldn't recommend you do so.
The first thing I'd do would be to place it into your pc and then run a third party firmware backup program, so that you'll atleast have the original firmware it contained, because you can't d/l that firmware anywhere on the net, they simply don't update it like they do on pc's and it's *not* the same. IF you mess up, you'll wind up buying a new burner from a service center, and it will cost you $$$; unlike buying a burner off the shelf. Best bet it to *not* mess with the burner. YES it's true *all* the service dvd is for, is to change out the hd; remember, it really isn't a consumer part, rather it's for service centers, just like the service remote, all it's for is service; it's not a consumer part.
The fact that we can get our hands on the service dvd, doesn't change what it's for; sorry.

1.Change HD
2. Power ON
3.Confirmation of the CPRM ID No. as follows: press ESC then STEREO, take a note of the 9 digit number, you will need it later( same No. is on the back of recorder), Exit this mode by pressing CLEAR.
4.Deletion of the CPRM ID No.: press ESC + STEREO, input the same number as the ID number and press STOP.
5. Input of the CPRM ID No. and ID data: press ESC+STEREO, input 9-digit ID number then press SEARCH to register ID, after this recorder's display indicates "INSERT ID", open drawer with recorder's OPEN/CLOSE button and insert ID disc, close. After recorder's display indicates "ID DATA OK" press CLEAR button.
Do it at your own risk! I did.
Same exact procedure with units DVD drive. Forgot to mention, after step 5 power down then up, go to recorder's menu and initialize disc!!! ID disc is Pioneer part #GGV1179, it's a 2GB DVD disc non Windows format!
I am ok for 1 and 2. Part 3 will give me something like 123456789. It's after this that things get a bit iffy as there is references to CPRM IDs and IDs. Part 3 gives me the CPRM ID. Does part 4 mean to enter this same number in again? At part 5, do I now enter the same 9 digit number again, hit search and it will then prompt for the data disc? I then power it down and then up again. Will I now be prompted to initialize the disc or do I have to select it from some menu? I have to get this right first time, hence the clarification. -
Hi everyone.
I have a 720 Pioneer new, and have mot started using the hard drive yet.
I too want to intstall a 250, 300, or 400Gb drive. Am trying to get the Pioneer image but its a pain via that m* train, only 40 % so far after weeks.
What about uising a hex editor on the hard drive to see where this ID is stored, clone to new and re-edit. Surely that is possible ?
Any comments ?

Noop new HD = new ID info needed, that's the whole purpose of the ID Disk.

If you clone your drive and use a hex editor to alter the ID , whats the fuss all about . Its no different than using a service disk except that does it for you. Surely you can see that ?
Wysiwig -
OK then say you do clone your disk which isn't in windows format, then you go to edit the ID number; where are you going to get the proper new number from for the new HD?

Someone wrote that its derived from the number on the rear plate.
Its not an issue if Disc isn't in windows format because a hex editor can edit any format or hard drive.
Alternatively I can c;one my existinng virgin bare Pioneer drive to another of same size and that will transport the ID with it too, so then I can have a ddy based external Hard drive system, which I am doing just that on my Pace twin Tuner PVR , and am using 3.5" drives.
Any input to say whether its a false trail would be welcome.

Further to my earlier posting, I gave up waiting for clarification of the instructions and decided to try and upgrade the hard disk. After 30 minutes of nerve wracking activity (the machine is only 2 months old!), I now have a 300GB DVR520, which gives me 131 hours in SP mode. The instructions are pretty much OK, but could have been a bit clearer.
1.Change HD
2. Power ON (you will get an error message on screen about hardware - Don't panic at this stage)
3.Confirmation of the CPRM ID No. as follows: press ESC then STEREO, take a note of the 9 digit number, you will need it later( same No. is on the back of recorder), Exit this mode by pressing CLEAR.
4.Deletion of the CPRM ID No.: press ESC + STEREO, input the same number as the ID number and press STOP (this happens on the LED display, not on the TV).
5. Input of the CPRM ID No. and ID data: press ESC+STEREO, input 9-digit ID number (again, this is on the LED display) then press SEARCH to register ID, after this recorder's display indicates "INSERT ID", open drawer with recorder's OPEN/CLOSE button and insert ID disc, close. After recorder's display indicates "ID DATA OK" press CLEAR button.
6. Power down and then up again. Go to setup menu and initialise drive. -

I don't honestly know if you can upgrade the 5100H in the same way as the 520, as I have no knowledge of it. I am still debating what to do with the DVD and the remote, not to mention the 80GB drive. Part of me says sell them and recoup at least some of the cost (and they are costly here in the UK), and part of me says keep them just in case the new drive fails or an even bigger drive appears and I want to put that in. I will PM you about them. -
Hi Canon10d
I too am in UK, and would also welcome an opportunity to do a deal or whatever too, or maybe help us both. I am in the Midlands.
My machine is 720, am still finding instructions ambiguous
1.Change HD

Why do we need to delete ?
Did you not have to use a PSIOn or whatever ? was it just Pioneer disk ? and IR remote used ?
Hope to hear any suggestions etc for the disc or whatever may be possible
thanks a mill

I am using a Palm IIIx with 8mb. This is a monochrome model.
After the syn, I cannot find the remote anywhere on my Palm. Please tell me what I am doing wrong, TIA. -

You have to copy your remote program(OmniRemote) and converted ProntoCnvt.pdb into the ADD-ON directory. Open the Plam desktop, click the "Install" icon and "add" the remote program & the ProntoCnvt.pdb. Click "Done" when finish.
Next time you syn your Palm, the remote program should be automatic installed into your palm.
On your palm Main menu(All), you should see the OmniRemote icon. Open the program and click the "OmniRemote pro" (on the left top screen). Selected the "Advanced" from the drop down menu. Then, select the "databases" to load the Pronto template. Remember to scale to your screen size when you convert the Pronto.ccf.
Hope this would help!

Hi, thanks a million for your kind help. I am almost there. I can see 1 button. I think I used the wrong size ie 320x320 when converting. What size size shall I choose for my Palm IIIX ?
TIA -
hello everyone, how to convert the service.ccf to service.pdb? using this ProntoCnvt.PDB ? or else?
-
If anyone in the UK is interested, I can loan out the service remote and DVD so that you can upgrade the hard disk.
Send me a PM for details. -
