Actually I already had rar installed prior to my last post. It's available as a normal part of my distro's repositories. But, the the post I replied to didn't say I need rar, it said I needed Winrar. Since I don't know what if any differences of consequence there may be, I asked in order to clarify. Compare:
Windoz Linux Different?
ZIP yes yes no
UNZIP yes yes no
WinZIP yes ?? ??
WinRAR yes ?? ??
RAR ?? yes ??
Do you see the protential for confusion when someone tells that Win* somethingorother is required?
Another thing is I downloaded all 20+ files already from http://www.dvdboard.de/forum/showthread.php?t=121319 and noticed they came in blazingly fast. On examination I found each to be a mere 5268 bytes, which sounds hopelessly wrong. Why would a DVD iso be split into so many tiny pieces? It sounded like I downloaded enough to partially fill a pocket CD rather than a DVD. So I tried to inspect a few with MC, but MC seems to think each is an empty file. Then I tried the man page for rar, but bash said not found. So I tried rar --help, then rar e pioneer_service.part19.rar, and bash told me the file is not a RAR archive.
Now what?

I think each file should be over 100000KB if its only 19 files.
Something might have gone wrong with your downloads.
You also need nrg2iso to convert the .NRG file to a .ISO file when you have managed to unRAR the files!
Let me know if you do not succed![/b] -
Hi,
I have a Pioneer DVR-433H, but I can't understand which is my 9 digits CPRM ID N.
At Right of Fan there isn't nothing, no number and under the Tuner I view a bar code with 9 digits called MFD.
Uder it there's only the 13 digits Serial Number.
Please Help me!
I have a philips SRU 530 Universal Remote control. Can I use this as Remote Service Control ?
Thank a lot
GoodBye -
On all Pioneers it is a very small white label about the size of your fingertip, located next to the AC power socket on the back of the unit. The top of the label shows a combination of letters and numbers, ignore this. Below it is the bar code, and right under the bar code is the nine digit CPRM number you need. Sometimes you have to examine very closely because it tends to look like more than nine digits, its a trick of the eye: when you write them down it is always nine digits. Of course its possible the label for your machine was removed or fell off on its own, but if you don't have the label at all do not worry: the recorder stores it internally and will display it for you once you begin the procedure with the service remote. When you press ESCAPE and STEREO to get into service mode, the recorder will automatically show its nine digit CPRM number on your TV: just write it down BEFORE you continue pressing any other buttons.

trhouse, Thank you, now I understand...then maybe it gone lost because I see the four signs that mark the corners of rectangle (printed on the plate), but there is no paper.
Can I use a philips SRU 530 Universal Remote control as Remote Service Control ?
Thank you

Help!!!!!!
I used DVR 450 (which is a different with the model with the people done succuss before)
I follow all step but when I load the service disk (which I dowload and burn), it' s first show LOAD ID then not show OK but show rom write NG (ID NG).
I try serveral time , it's same so what can I do?
When I put back the original harddisk (80G) then it's show Wrong CPRM
Now I cannot use the original and also new one what can I do?????
Thanks everybody here!!!! -
You probably do not have the correct service disc, there have been at least 7-8 variations issued over the last 5 years. The Pioneer 450 is a 2007 model, so it needs what is known as a "Type 2" service disc. The service disc number I have used successfully on this model is GGV1305. If you need this newer disc, use the "ask a question" page at pioneerfaq website. Someone will get back to you within a couple days with suggestions on where you might be able to get this disc (availability changes daily, the pioneerfaq site is a pioneer hobbyist site that keeps track of such information.) Do NOT use GGV1179, GGV1239, GGV1256 etc. because these are for the older 510, 420, 520, 720, 530, 531, 533 and 633 recorders. The newer 640, 543, 540, 450, 550, 650, 460, 560 and 660 recorders need service disc GGV1273, GGV1305 or later.
There is a chance of failure even with the correct service disc: most of us are using downloaded clones instead of the actual pressed service disc. This can lead to trouble if you don't burn the download correctly, the download is slightly corrupt, or you have a slightly faulty blank disc. Make sure to burn the service disc download onto quality blank DVD-R media such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim Datalife. Avoid using DVD+R or any R/W to make a service disc.
One final suggestion: in my personal experience repairing two model DVR-450s, I noticed there is something peculiar in their hard drive connection. The 450 and later models switched to a SATA-type connection, and the connector and/or the controller chip seems to come loose or get confused when these units are shipped in the mail, at least on the two "open box/demo" 450s I took care of. I had to remove the hard drive sled, unplug the cables on the drive, plug them back in, and do the same on the motherboard. Take special care to make sure the connections are snug, and don't over-tighten the bracket screws. After I did this, I was able to use the hard drives normally and they accepted the service disc. Before I removed the drive, I couldn't get the unit to recognize or initialize the hard drive properly. Somehow, removing and reconnecting the hard drive resets the motherboard to work better. I don't know if its the drive cables or perhaps the drive brackets shorting against the chassis, but moving the drive around fixed the problem for me. -
Thanks God, Mr Orsetto, you is the best guy I never seems. I used the disc as above link which is GGV1179 so I think your answer is right because I follow every steps carefully and have correct response until the Load ID then normally is expect come out ID OK but it appear ID NG.
Now I need is a newer service disc, I will try to pioneerfag to ask a newer disc. Much thanks for your help. However, I am afraid not so easy to get a correct disc. I bought this model DVR 450 about 1 years and want to change the Harddisk to a bigger one but I cannot find the service disc unitil I found this thread.
I have use a geat effort to find the GVV1179 so it is great appreciate if you can get me the link to download the correct service disc.
I am a greedhorn, and much thanks to everybody here specially to Mr Orsetto -

The pioneerfaq site can be tricky to navigate sometimes, I just went to look for the "ask a question" page and it took me a long time to find it. To be fair, the site tries to accommodate different languages and many different models, which is very confusing to manage on an ongoing basis. Hkan has been a lifesaver for Pioneer users around the world, we all owe him thanks (and a donation!)
pierrewong, you can just send an email directly to supportATpioneerfaqDOTinfo, and ask if they can help you find the 1305 disc quickly. It will be much faster for you that way: as seeker47 said, Hkan always tries his best to help Pioneer users in every country. -
Thanks every body here especially is Mr orsetto, he give me a great help and lead me a way to success.
I got Success!!!!!!!
After all guy help me at here, finally I change the Harddisk of my DVR 450 from 80G to 320G, 4 times than before. Great!!!
Mr Orsetto say is right , the main thing is you got a right service disc otherwise don't do this.
Mr Hakan is a good man and I on behalf of every pioneer friend give salute to him. I decide to donate omney to this site. Hope this site can continue to support people
Thank you very much to everybody and your help is high appreciated -
What service disk do I need to upgrade the hard drive in an RT601H-S?
-
You need GGV1236 or later!

Folks,
I had posted in another thread and I think in this one about the problems with the TV Guide (and the timer record menus) not coming up on a DVR-531HS.
I was able to locate the service disc thanks to information in this thread and got a Harmony 520 remote and downloaded the codes from Harmony site to use it as a service remote.
I wiped the Hard Drive, put the Pioneer4.iso stuff on it. Then put it back in. Used the Harmony remote and the service disc 1179. Got it initialized and it's working like a champ! I think somehow the guide info on the Hard Drive got corrupted.
The instructions at pioneerfaq.info are awesome! THANKS so much to Hkan and everyone who contributed.
Thanks again,
MC -
Before trying to get the proper Service Disc for a 640/550/650 model, could anyone make a suggestion on where in Canada to get a Service Remote? I believe Pioneer Canada still does not sell them to consumers. This is a massive thread, and some of the earlier recommendations don't seem to apply any longer.
-
"Real" Pioneer service remotes are impossible to obtain in the USA, but Canadian Pio user Sean Nelson over at AVS Forum was able to order one from a parts dealer in Canada last year. Apparently Pioneer has updated the remote to a new model, Sean says the one he received is marked GGF1595. You might try sending Sean a PM to ask who his source was, perhaps they still have them in stock. The last price I saw in the USA was $55.00 in 2006, expect to pay at least this much (the service remote is expensive as well as rare, that's why most DIY folks are "rolling their own" from codes posted here in the threads).
-
You might want to see if the Logitech Harmony site has the code for that remote. If so that's the way to go. Then you can use it for other things.

Read the beginning of this thread and look through it. I thought I saw where someone replaced their DVD drive. I guess you just need to get the same type drive and swap them out?
