OK... After much appreciated help from Hkan, I have been able to get the NVRAM problem taken care of. (I was using the wrong data disc for my machine - duh! Dunce cap please...) Once I appropriated the correct data disc the ID was successfully written and I was able to do the HDD initialize in Disc Setup. I can even record and playback to/from the HD. However...... I still get the HDD ERR when I power down and back up. Once I go into Disk Navigator the HDD ERR clears and it lets me play or record to my heart's content. This is a 400 GB drive and it tells me I have 175 hours remaining in SP mode. So, other than the initial boot up error, it seems to be OK. Anyone else seen this? Did I miss something? (Dunce cap standing by....)
Thanks again for all of the help!![]()

sequestre have you read the Guide that are lockated at PioneerFAQ? http://www.pioneerfaq.info/click/click.php?id=45.
As DVR-533 and DVR-633 should be the same DVR,right?, but with just diffrent HDD size.
You need to copy a file to your HDD to make it work without (start up) errors.
EDIT: Before you use any of the Pioneer4(X).zip files please be adviced that you find out what firmware version you do have first. -

Is there anything else I am missing that I might need that currently does not work? -
Does anyone have the GGV1239 or GGV1179 disk or know of a URL thats works to D/L it from. Can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks Maybe post to a FTP site or something.

Does anybody have the GGF1381 OmniRemote file that definitely works? I tried converting the pcf for OmniRemote and the buttons aren't working on my Pioneer 520-H. (I have the Service Remote manual so I am not randomly pressing buttons) I could be doing something wrong but I don't know what...

Does anyone know where I can get the Pioneer DVR-510H service manual and the service dvd? I need to replace my hard drive in the unit and cannot find either items anywhere. I've searched the website links on this site and unfortunately cannot get the items. I have the service remote, actually created one myself, just need the manual and the dvd, thanks.
Thank you,
Keith

I've managed to upgrade my 433-HK thanks to Hkan and others on the forum but i've temporarily put in an old 30 GB 5,400 rpm IDE Maxtor drive. I want to try and recover the recordings from the original 80 GB drive onto a new and bigger drive but I'm not sure which HDD to go for. I've been looking at the DB35 series Seagate consumer drives (the same as the original in the DVR). The ST3160212ACE (160 GB) is out of stock right now so I have the choice of the ST3120213ACE (120 GB) or the ST3250820ACE (250 GB) which is a newer version drive but only costs £10 more. I've got to order one quickly before my Vito Remote trial runs out in 14 days. Does it matter what Hard Drive you use? Does HDD rpm (5,400 vs 7,200) make any difference? Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance. -
I am a newbie to the forum and hope I do not ask something that might have already been stated. I have a defective HD in my DVR633h-s region 1 player. I replaced the HD with a 250GB drive, setup the CPRM ID, it stated it was ok. After the power up I get a CPRM Error, and wrong information on the HD. I ran the Firmware CD but no matter what I have tried the cd will not update the new drive. I am wondering if I might have the wrong Version.I see a v1.30, is this correct for a DVR633h-s region 1? also if it isnt can you let me know what versions I should be using . I tried copying the HD from the old to the new using Koppix and I still get the CPRM error. Please advise, Thanks GD
-
If you have a firmware version of 1.30 or above on your DVR you should use the Pioneer4(1.30).zip that you can find at: http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dvr630.php?player=DVR-630H&question=replace_hdd

Thanks Hkan,
I tried the iso, burned it to a cd, loaded it as per directions and I get an error that it cannot play, I hit play by itself without the Rec Stop and it counts down from 26 but does not do any loading, I put another brand new drive in it, entered the cprm id, got the write to rom ok, turned it off, turned it back on and still got the cprm id error with the HD info incorrect, tried the firmware cd on this drive and no matter what I cannot get the HD to initialize menu choice. I looked in the firmware menu and it shows the drive as being there physically, Puzzeled!! -

I sent you a PM.
Do you initialize the disc in the OSD menu after you installed the new HDD? -
Hi Hkan,
Thanks for all of the help that you've given, highly appreciated. I'm having problems with the service dvd for the Pioneer DVR-510H. I burned the ISO to a dvd, when I put it into the 510H the DVR said "Loading" then the DVR ejected the service dvd, no menus, nothing. Not sure what I did wrong??? Was I suppose to burn the ISO to a cd and not a dvd? I utilized the latest version of Nero to burn the dvd and used the files for the service dvd that you guided me to (the ones for the 510H). Please, any help on this, thanks. -
Hkan, I got your message, I tried to initilize but the menu option is never there after the input of the cprm id, could I have the wrong data dvd? its the 2gb size, the unit was made in Oct 2005, the manual says to use this data until june 2005 ? I dont have the other one..

If it will write the ID OK the disc is OK -
Hkan,
Thats what I thought , but I still cannot get the HDD Initialize menu choice, I am thinking I need the GGV1239 data disk because the build date is after June 2005. -

WD Caviar SE WD3200JB for US$107.50
I just wanted to verify if this was the correct HDD to install in the DVR 520-H.
Thanks. -

Firmware Version for the DVR-540-HS:
To find the Firmware version, I did the following: From Home menu > Initial setup >Audio out > Digital out > Highlight ON > Press ANGLE on remote,
The TV screen shows the following:
Version: 5.13
Syscon : Release_224
Tuflcon: 485.000
Drive: 1.03
Device: E2R-FE 1.2
Region: 1
From this info, Which is my FIRMWARE Version?
Thanks

3. Followed the instructions as described earlier in this thread to do the upgrade.
Note: I used a standard, off-the shelve hard drive (Seagate ST3250620A - 250 GB). Its power consumption is very similar to the Maxtor Quickview 80 GB that came with the recorder. So far everything works well.
Recording capacity after upgrade: 109 hours -

I have a U.S. DVR-640H-S. It is working great so far, so (hopefully) I won't need to upgrade any time soon, but I have been around computers long enough to know that hard drives eventually die. With that in mind, I have decided to go ahead and get everything I need so that I can replace it when the time comes. I picked up the service manual yesterday and I am working on a good substitute service remote and the disc. I saw KTH's discussion about GGV1273 Type 2. That sounds real promising, but when I got my s/m, it listed a different disc, so I am hoping KTH or someone can clear up my confusion. My s/m lists GGV1238 Type 2 as the latest disc as of April 2006. I assume my s/m may be a little outdated, and GGV1273 is newer, but I would like to clarify that. Can anyone confirm that 1273 is newer than 1238? And, more importantly, does anyone know that 1273 will work in all US 640H-S models? The differing part # in the manual confused me a little bit.
Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

GGV1273 Type2 will work for you!
The latest Type2 disc is GGV1305
I hope I'll get this one soon! -
Hkan,
Thanks for the clarification! Hopefully I won't need the disc any time soon, but I know how my luck goes.
And thank you very much for your dedication to assisting those of us who don't really know what the heck we are doing (we all gotta' start somewhere) .

Upgrading the HDD of a DVR 540 HS
I started upgrading the HDD by following the instructions for the DVR 53X given in the PIONEER FAQ site. The DVR was advertised as a 540/533. I completed the PART 4, steps 1 thru 9, then PART 1, but I could not complete PART 2 because I had the incorrect Data Disc (1179 and I needed the 1273).
In the PART 2, for the 53X, the pioner4.iso was written to the new hard drive.
QUESTION:
Should I erase the pioneer4.iso from the new hard drive before I continue with the PART 2 for the DVR 540 HS?. Notice that the instructions for the 53X and the 540 are different, and the pioneer4.iso may not be necessary for the 540.
