I have a ASUS P5A motherboard (rev. 1.03, I believe), with BIOS version 1007.A (the newest one). I recently upgraded from a 64MB SDRAM memory module to two sticks of Kingston 128MB SDRAM. The part number for both modules is KVR133X64C3/128. The datasheet for this part can be found at http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR133X64C3_128.pdf.

When I got the two Kingston sticks, I simply removed the existing 64MB and installed the two new ones. When I turned on the computer, the BIOS only detected 128MB. At first I thought that one of the modules was either bad or not installed correctly, but after some more testing I realized that each one is being detected as only 64MB. As far as I can tell, this Kingston RAM should be fully compatible with this motherboard. I did find a similar issue in the P5A FAQ on the ASUS website, about 256MB SDRAM being recognized as 128MB, but the answer to that one is that the motherboard will only support 256MB modules if they are "single-side", but this doesn't imply that there should be a problem with either a single-side or double-side 128MB. There is a possibility that the motherboard will not support 128MB double-side memory modules, but I cannot find anything to support this, and I also cannot determine if the Kingston RAM I have are single or doubled-side.

I have also looked at all the jumper configurations listed in the motherboard manual and cannot find anything that seems like it would make the motherboard recognize the RAM correctly.

Has anyone had a similar experience and/or have any suggestions on what to do?

    Thanks,
    Brent

Sell that RAM and buy a stick of 512MB . You'll be happy, so will your computer.

They might actually be 64MB sticks labled as 128MB.

I have had that happen b4.

I hope, for your sake, that I am wrong.

This motherboard can't handle anything bigger than 256, and like I said, that's only if it's single-side.

Actually, I'd be stoked if that was the case. I'm sure I wouldn't have any problems getting them exchanged for actual 128MB modules (I got them from newegg).
