    I'm interested in getting a dvd burner, but the only thing i'd probably use it for is just to burn AVIs, Mpegs, and other video files, but is there anyway of converting those files into DVD format so they will play on all dvd players?

    Yes

    All dvd burners burn cd's as well.

    So far as I know, all DVD burners can also burn CDs.

    You'll get very little help here if you don't do some searching/reading/read the guides/read FAQ/read glossary to get a working knowledge of this stuff.
