Can damaged hardware affect playback of movies on the computer?? Obviously if the video card died the pc wouldnt even show anything but could a dusty lens of the cd drive or anything make the picture more pixelated?

I'd imagine so. A slow processor, a fragmented hard drive or too many processes running in the background can have that effect as well.

It could cause pixelation, choppiness, maybe even sync problems.

If it's a DVD, try plaing it in a desktop player and see if you get the same errors.

Processor should be fine. I'd try defragging once a week if it's causing problems. Check task manager for extra processes you don't need running.
