I have a movie that is in 2 files, well 4 actually, 2 bins and 2 cues, SVCD format. I want to merge both into one movie, and put them on a dvd. What programs, methods can I use?

I do this quite regularly but author my own DVD menus... my method is as follows for movie only.

    1. Use Daemon Tools to mount the first VCD image and copy the largest AVSEQxx.DAT then rename it to av00.mpg
    2. Use Daemon Tools to mount the second VCD image and copy the largest AVSEQxx.DAT then rename it to av01.mpg
    3. Using DVD Lab Pro import the av00.mpg and av01.mpg and let DVDLabPro demux and then transcode the audio of each.
    5. Create two movie objects
    6. Drag av00.mpv and av00.mpa (vid and audio) into the first movie object
    7. Drag av01.mpv and av01.mpa (vid and audio) into the second movie object
    8. Link first play to the first movie
    9. Link the first movie to the next.

    Your done. Compile.

You should test the complilation with PowerDVD or such like before burning.

  3. Excellent method Kained! I usually rip the (S)VCD to my hard drive as mpeg for a permanent copy, but your way saves time and space.
Again, using dvdlab to make menus and chapters, finished product is nicer than a plain old VCD

Thanks guys, you've all been really helpful. I'm not sure which method I'll use, probably a mixture

Still having problems, here's what I've done so far:

    1. Mounted the disc images with Alcohol 120%
    2. Copied the mpegs from each disc image and renamed one so they don't conflict
    3. Dammit. TMPGEnc won't accept the files because it says "file can not open, or unsupported," so I can't encode it to dvd format.

So here's a screen shot of GSpot on one of the files, they're the same type.

    What am I forgetting/doing wrong?

edit: btw the mpegs play fine on my computer.

Obviously, TDA doesn't accept VCD .DAT files as DVD-Lab does. To do it properly, you should rip the mpeg out of the VCD with VCDGear. Renaming .dat to .mpg is cheating, and cheating doesn't always work...

It's not named AVSEQ01.DAT, it's already called AVSEQ01.MPG on the disc image. I didn't rename it or change the file type so I wasn't cheating. But I'll still give VCDGear a shot.

If they're SVCD (MPEG-2), then you'll need an MPEG-2 codec installed on your system for TMPGEnc to open it. If you can play them, it sounds like you have one already, so it may just mean that you need to raise the priority of your MPEG-2 codec in TMPGEnc under Options > Environmental Settings > VFAPI plug-in.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Well I raised the priority of my MPEG-2 codec and I still get an error message saying "<output filename> can not be created." But it doesn't tell me why it can't be created so that really doesn't help. I also ripped the mpegs from the bin/cue files using VCDGear so they should be fine. Any more suggestions?

So raising the priority allowed you to at least open the file in TMPGEnc then ?

I'd daresay that it's trying to output back to the source drive, which in this case is a mounted image, which it won't be able to do. Try setting the output drive to a physical hard drive in your ssystem (ie. your C drive).
    If in doubt, Google it.
