  6. I have burned a couple of hundred Ritek G05s, Prodisc S03s, Ricoh W11, and Ritek R03s and they all are very good burns (R03s are only good). I have yet to see a coaster and I would buy another drive in a minute.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  9. I have this drive. I purchased it from Newegg in September.

Question: Can I upgrade the firmware to the latest version 2.18? I have 2.16 on it now.

I downloaded the firmware upgrade but I temporarily held off doing the upgrade because the text file that came with it said that it wouldn't work for OEM drives or external drives.

I bought mine as a bare drive from Newegg and installed it in a Bytecc USB 2.0 enclosure. I have it plugged into the PC via USB.

Does this mean I can't upgrade the firmware either because it's an OEM drive (not sure) or because I have it hooked to the PC via an external enclosure?

    Any help will be appreciated.

  10. What is the difference in the new firmware? I'm using the old 2.16 on an OEM drive, it works fine.

  11. I'm not sure of the difference, but I think the newest firmware may allow you to burn at higher speeds. I burned my first dvd last night and it seemed to take forever.

  12. FW always comes with notes. thee new FW, 2.18 just has more media codes in it, won't change anything else or so they said.

  13. Forgive my lack of knowledge with advanced features of DVD burners, but what exactly are bittsetting and riplock?

And why would you use hacked firmware?

  14. riplock = limits speed you can rip a disk.

If you don't know about these things, its really not important.
