What's the point of OT now?

Where do you draw the line with the one word or no word posts though?

Sometimes people respond with smileys.

Some of my posts are one worders like when MackemX was wanting confirmation on how many windows I had open and I said yep.

At that rate, I will soon be banned.

It's not one-word posts. It's posting 7 or 8 posts ..each having one word of the sentence. There was some of that yesterday and I think a couple yellow cards were issued for it.

tekkie, I believe that the shift change from the "glory days" of OT is largely to do with personnel - indolikaa, teegee420 and Will Hay are just a couple off the top that were IMO instrumental in creating OT atmosphere.

From my perspective, the threads in the Off Topic area is "kind of like a box of chocolates." If you're not happy with the first or second one, try a third or a fourth...

I view the Off Topic area as something akin to a "break room" at the work place. It's a place where people with common interests can share ideas, BS, and engage in horse play. Often times good things come out of it, although these things may not always be immediately apparent. As long as no one is injured, it would probably be wrong to apply limits.

You have to keep in mind that this board is video related, and that's why there are restrictions...even if it's in OT.

But nothing is preventing you guys from setting up a place to gather to discuss or do other stuff.

While I did vent, never did I express a frustration over what I am allowed (or not allowed) to do here. Nobody is really controlling what gets posted (although certain posts could cause trouble for the poster ). Sure, the mods have the power to close any thread they want to, and the thread strarter can certainly feel free to declare their own thread dead.

My vent was centered on a) what seemed to be arbitrary locking of threads. Some good threads were locked, many crap threads were left open. I suppose that could be attributed to differences in what each person feels is interesting, humorous, or twisted enough to be worthy of posting in. Oh well.... On the other hand, my point was clearly made in the original poster asking for a lock on their thread. What is the point? If someone starts a thread to vent, then asks for it to be locked, closing it to the enjoyment or rebuttal of others, then the forum is nothing more than a personal soapbox, and I would happily direct them to your suggestion.

The so-called vent (ok, it was a vent) was nothing more than my disappointment at the recent quality of the OT threads. Ok, the Shadowmistress prank (still don't believe it was all a prank), was somewhat humorous. The Calypso thread(s) weren't even close to funny. The multiple "Would you date a ....." were pathetic and pitiful. I realized this when I found myself finding more interesting threads in the main forums than OT. Up until the last week or two, that has NEVER happened before.

Finally, I'm pleased to see you felt no problem in voicing your opinion of displeasure over my voicing my opinion of displeasure.

If other's opinions upset you so badly, might I suggest this! :P

No point (ever) but there is some fun... I guess I'll mentally lock out some posts... like I don't really care about the Calypso threads and a few others... So.. I just don't look at 'em. Keeps me mentally sound... I can't keep track of all the threads (I gotta put in a few hours of work) -- I don't know how some of your whores do it -- posting multiple responses to each and every thread...

Personally I only care about one thread in particular "Prettiest women Part II" thread ... god bless BJ ... lock all the rest

I understand what you were saying...my response wasn't really directed at you, it was to everyone in general, as this thread itself was taking different directions with general venting.


I'm just proposing a suggestion for an alternate board, that like http://www.politick.org.uk/ was created as an alternative to discuss politics (which aren't allowed to be discussed here).


A videohelp.com OTPW Alternative Board or OTPW Anything Goes type board for discussing or posting anything that is a little too much for OT here...or anything else you want another board for.

I think you could get people here to post there as long as it's interesting enough - all it takes is a link in your sig or tell 'em about it in a thread.

I'm sure if it involved a free-for-all to bitch about everything that's wrong with videohelp.com's OT forum on your board or the regulars here , you'd have more posts than you could handle

I don't have any other solution for what you were specifically addressing - this isn't my board nor am I mod...so I don't have that say.

All I can suggest is either starting a new topic to continue what was locked if you had more to say on it (but that is up to the mods here to decide if the discussion should go on or not).

I don't feel it's my place to even respond to what you have an issue with - it's completely out of my hands. I have no more say about it than you do.

That said, I am working on getting my own domain up, and an OTPW free-for-all sounds like a great idea. A "what's wrong with VH OT" gripe forum wouldn't interest me much. I still think this is the best site around, on or off topic. OT is just in a slump content-wise (IMO).
