    i'm not sure what kind of soundcard i have. i need a driver for it. are there any drivers that work semi-universally or are drivers extremely card specific?

    You MIGHT be able to identify it with AIDA32, an app that shows you what is under the hood.

    Have you tried going to start>control panel>system>sound and adudio devices It might list what you have, my card is listed.

    I'm guessing that it's not picking up what kind, i.e. he's getting a question mark in device manager. You may have to open up the case if you don't know what model your motherboard or sound card is.
    Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
