hello guys i have an rmvb file that has no english subs so i downloaded an english sub file for the file but how can i use it since ffdshow will not use the sub file since the main video file is rmvb format?

Use VSFilter. You might also consider re-muxing the lot to a mkv file. I should point out though that as far as I know it is not possible to demux the RV again from the mkv.
Enabling ffdshow for RAW video may also work.
