Western Digital or Seagate SATA HDD?

Wich one of these are better? I know it's probally a matter of personal preference, but I just wanted to get some input on the 2 of them before I buy one.

IMO Seagate. I've had a few issue with WD and Maxtor drives and none since switching to seagate. The best thing about them to me though is there are very quiet in comparision to many other brands.

I'd go with Seagate too. Cap said that he's heard about people buying maxor or western digital (because they're cheap) and then having problems a few months later. Better to pay more upfront and not have issues IMO.

Tell you onr thing about the seagate it's quiet as a mouse. It sits about 2 feet from me and I never hear it.

Both are great hard drives.. I've got both of them. They both have been fine for me in the past 8 months? go for either one.

If you're going for performance, I'd say go with the WD. Their Raptors run at 10,000RPMs and carry the same 5 year warranty you get from Seagate.

Thanks for all the input, I think I will go with seagate might think about getting a 10,000 rpm drive later but the storage size is smaller.

All seagate drives now have 5 year warranties. WD drives (IDE) only have 1 year, I think SATA are also only 1 year. (Raptors have 3 year I think).

My personal preferance is the Samsung SpinPoint SATA 160GB. Good speed, quiet, and cool. 3 year warranty (available at newegg). Seagate are also suppose to run very cool and quiet.

If you go with a WD drive, you will definately need active cooling. In fact, I highly recommend using a HD cooler or at least have a case fan blow on the drives. They can get quite hot.

Seagate is 5 years all around. WD is 1 year for retail box drives excluding Raptors which are 5 years. All OEM drives carry 3 years IIRC.
