    I'm creating a DVD of stills set to an audio track. Premiere 6.5 used to real-time render and preview quite nicely. For some reason, its behavior has changed as follows:

    A) If I click the Monitor's "play button", the cursor moves through the timeline properly but no video nor audio is generated until the cursor encounters a video transition (a change from one still to another). Once such a boundary is crossed, the video and audio are perfect.

    B) If I manually move the cursor along the timeline, the audio is fine but no video is generated. None of the stills are visible in the Monitor window.

    Premiere used to generate proper video and audio no matter where the timeline cursor was or how it got there (whether manually or in "play" mode). I have Optimize Stills turned on, but I had that turned on previously too. I'm rendering the work area every time but that isn't fixing the problem.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hold down the Alt key as you drag the pointer in the Timeline.

    OR (not at video box ....but from memory)

    Project > Project Settings > Keyframe and Rendering.

    Like you, I'm not at that box at the moment (it's at home, I'm at work). I'll try that tonight and report back.

    >>Project > Project Settings > Keyframe and Rendering.<<

    That's where I checked the "Optimize Stills" box. There aren't many other options there that seem as they'd make a difference. The six checkboxes are:

    * Ignore Audio Effects (unchecked)

    * Ignore Video Effects (unchecked)

    * Ignore Audio Rubber Bands (unchecked)

    * Optimize Stills (checked)

    * Frames Only at Markers (unchecked)

    * Real Time Preview (unchecked)

    I tried checking Real Time Preview but it made no difference.

    I very much appreciate your (and anyone else's) assistance and suggestions. Please respond if you have some ideas on how to correct this odd behavior of Premiere. Thanks!

    I tried holding the Alt key while moving the timeline cursor. It sort of fixed the video problem (in the sense that the images did appear and keep up with the cursor), but it also completely silenced the audio (!?!).

    Premiere didn't used to behave this way. I could move the cursor all over the timeline and the video AND audio would be generated properly all the time. No holding of special keys was necessary.

    Arrrrrrrgggghhhh!!! What's going on???

    OK, but moving to WHERE? You didn't say where you moved it...?

    @ rlhartman - Are the original image files still in the same location they were in when you imported them into Premiere? Are they the same filename?

    Also, you could try the forums at www.wrigleyvideo.com - a good site for all things Premiere...

    Good luck.

    This is a brand new project, so yes - the files are exactly where they've always been, since they were just freshly imported.

    At the suggestion of someone else, I tried starting Premiere while holding CTRL+Shift, which apparently deletes Premiere's existing config file. It did indeed prompt me for the "editing style" I wanted, just as it did upon first install. However, the problem did not go away.

    Ideas?!?
