  1. ok, I have some video I need to host for a few days, I haven't found a free server(been kinda broke^_^),
anyway I've decided to just leave my computer on a few days and get an ftp or http program to let people download the video's from me(and thier not illegal rips!, thier personal creations of mine I did as a project!, so you can reply worry free!)
anyway, I downloaded a few basic free ftp server and http applications at download.com and installed them,
but when I turn any of them on and give me Ip to a friend, he can't access my computer, says could not display page?
    can someone help me?

  2. First, get Serv-U v2.5 (or 3.0, but I prefer the older one) and register on DNS2Go, this way you won't need to give your friend an IP, since that changes whenever you disconnect/reconnect, and you need to setup a new user with password, and a location to where you want him to login to.

I recommand it, as I use it myself for both my FTP and my Web Server which is also on my own PC, and people seem to love abusing and hacking for some reason.

  3. one more thing, I have windows xp pro, will leaving my computer on a few day's cause it to freeze up? or is it that stable a program?

  4. I have my Windows98 running up for weeks and sometimes months without a reboot or a restart, how stable it is, depends on how you installed it and how much software you loaded on it, the more, the less stable it will become, this is relevent to any OS created by good'ol Microsoft!

I've not yet had a single crash of the Serv-U FTP Server, so I doubt you will manage to crash it, it's a free user friendly program, easy to configure and very easy on system resources.

stop trying to use a web browser as an ftp client. tell your friend it is not a web page and go to a download site and get an FTP client program (like bulletproof or cute)

if you simply MUST use a web browser the url should look like this...

    ftp://usernameassword@your ip addressort #

it would look something like this

    ftp://dumwaldo:123xyz456@987.65.43.210:40

that would connect me to the ftp server located at ip address 987.65.43.210 on port 40 with the username of dumwaldo and the password 123xyz456

  7. Exactly like dumwaldo said!! your friend keeps trying to access your FTP using a Web Browser!, you are not webbing! you are FTPing! use a decent FTP Client.
