I just switched from modem to DSL about two weeks ago, and taking advantage of that I re-formatted my machine to download the latest versions of everything from scratch. I'm running WinXP Pro 1GB Ram, 240 GB HD, my drives are Lite On 16X Dvd Rom, MSI Dvd +-RW 8X.
I also thought about the possibility of this being a hardware issue, but I'm as clueless as what it could be as anyone else.

On my JVC 500 - Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-E50S and my VCR friendly APEX 1100 DVD Player I had no problem playing it.
Several methods were used tho ... because it wouldn't play on a Panasonic E35S DVD Player.
So I tried different ways to get the Panasonic DVD Player model 35 to play it .... and it didn't play ... but after I used Cyberlink PowerDVD Copy [I blanked out the Trailers] the DVD did play but after the lady with the torch appeared the screen went blank ... but when the menu button was pressed on the Remote Control ... the menu appeared and the movie played.
Wasn't easy .... my daughter has the movie too ... I told her about all the problems related to it ... she considered it a challenge and 2 days later she was calling me up and telling me .... It wont play !!! ... LOL
She used AnyDVD and DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5 ... I told her she needs to get DVD Decrypter and rip it to the hard drive first.
I haven't heard from her in a few days .... so I don't know if she was successful.
Something to mention ... I use Clone DVD 2 and Cyberlink PowerDVD Copy ... because they allow me to blank out the trailers ... instead of using the slide show or Video has been removed ... options.
I set them for custom size and then DVD Shrink or Nero Recode. I've even started using DVD2one 1.52 ... in the last week.
I also processed Resident Evil 2 ... but I'm not sure if my living room DVD players will play it .... I did the usual mix with multiple encoders and then I ran DVD Rebuilder 0.72 for the grand finale ... wide and full screen included ... I did 6 Pass with CCE 2.5
News Update ... It plays ... but ... I get the blank no video crap ... but ... I hit skip to next chapter and it plays ... and I rewind/backup to beginning of movie and it plays. Image quality is good on my RCA 31" TV ... full screen and wide screen are included to choose from.
How did I do it ... I first ripped it to the hard drive with DVD Decrypter.
I then used DVD2one 1.52 to make a 6.8 GB version. I then used CloneDVD 2 to remove the trailers only ... and then I used DVD Rebuilder 0.72 to do the final shrink at 6 passes ... each movie being about 2.1 GB on a DVD-R. It took over 12 hours to process ... I was at work while it was doing this.

If yu hav simply loaded the latest AnyDVD as has been mentioned before in many threads, you couold have then simply used DVDShrink and done whatever you wanted to create your backup. No blank bits of video like you have nopw. Just a backup with the bits you really want. Works for all these NEW releases with the new protection scheme.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

Pardon me for resurrecting this one. Just to confirm it ain't tough.
Ripped with DVDDecrypter, ISO Mode. Pertinent settings: Aggressive Structure Protection Removal, Detect Mastering Errors, RCE Region 1, Remove PUOs, everything else at defaults, including CSS Cracking ( I/O Key Exchange -> Brute Force).
Straight reauthor in DVDShrink caused a memory error. Do over. Went to start/end frames, jumped to chapter two and used the back button until I stopped it at two seconds, zero frames. That became the start point, left end frame alone. Hit Backup, no problems. DVD plays correctly all the way through.
Is this the best they can do? :PPull! Bang! Darn!

As a matter of fact, I found what was wrong with the movie I was trying to back up... regardless that my disc was perfectly clean and brand new, it just passed through my mind that *maybe* the disc was damaged.
I ran dvdinfopro and it came with the results that the disc was full of bad sectors (Starting at 50%) even though it was NEW!.
The curious thing was that it actually played ok on my standalone dvd player without problems.
Well, I didn't want it to end like this, so I rented the forgotten and backed up the rented movie and I did it without problems!.
Thank God I always keep my receipts, and was able to exchange *with a lot of talking* my Forgotten copy for another one that didn't have those nasty red dots in the results screen.
Mission Acomplished!
You are in breach of the forum rules and are being issued with a formal warning. No "backing up" rentals for any reason whatsoever. Was that detail really all that necessary to share?

Actually, he stated that he owned a copy of The Forgotten, but his was damaged. So he copied a rental copy (still owns his own damaged copy). Then, he returned the damage copy to get an undamaged copy. See? He actually, in effect, has a backup of a movie he owns. Regardless, of how he backed it up. This is not illegal (well...technically it may be, but the jury is still out on this one).
