Ripping is not so much of a problem, re-authoring is the biggest problem.Originally Posted by Gurm

While Shrink and Decrypter both failed alone, using AnyDVD I have had no problem whether using Clone, Shrink, or Decrypter.
-
Here's a new one to ponder. I made a recent attempt on The Forgotten using the lastest versions of AnyDVD, X Copy, Decrypter and Shrink. However, couldn't get past the initial problem. Everytime I inserted the movie into the drive, my OS froze and nothing responded. When I removed the movie everything went back to normal. I got the same result three times even after AnyDVD did it's thing. I'm running Win98 SE, 512 MB RAM, Celeron 1.7 GHz. I've never encountered this issue with any movie, not even RE2. I'm open to some brain storming in case it happens in the future. I finally had to pass the movie on to a friend who has Win XP along with AnyDVD.
-
For "Forgotten" I had "DVD Region + CSS Free" opened/enabled and then I used DVD Shrink 3.2 to shrink in iso mode and dvd decrypter to burn iso image. Real simple. Guaranteed to work like a charm without any problems at all.

If I DL the trial version of AnyDVD.........Will it work using Shrink and Nero?
Thanks...........snoofer.

I used DVD Decrypter and tried to use DVD Rebuilder ... didn't make it
Okay ... after finding out I wasn't alone with this one ...
Actually I first stuck it in my USB Sony 500 with AnyDVd running and just took off to work for 10 some hours ... when I got home ... I saw the error.
I then ripped it with DVD Decrypter and ran DVD Rebuilder and got another error.
So ... I used Nero Recode 2 to process the ripped files on my harddrive[since then I've installed the newer version of Nero Recode 2 ... last night actually] and used slide show mode on the preview stuff.
This worked for me.

Something interesting about The Forgotten is it is similar to the episode of Star Trek Enterprise ... Observer Effect ... came on last Friday Jan 21st 2005.
I was showing a piece of The Forgotten to my g/f up to where Ash ran out to the car ... to tell her ... "I remember" ... then I hit the stop button ... but before she left I showed the beginning scene of STE ... Observer Effect ... both story lines are similar.
She was really wondering what was going on when NSA was running off with her.
I was dying to tell her and she knew it but I didn't .... yes ... my g/f is a Trekkie.
Makes it nice when a couple have something in common.

Ok, I'm trying to back this up right now.
I thought at first, that it owuld be the same as RE2 and such, but Vobblanker didn't touch it.
So, I d/l new versions of DVDDecripter and DVDshrink (never really needed to before) and it's ripping now.
When it finds bad sectors, it is inserting dummy sectors to replace them. With the whole "pack header not found" and such. My question is, after it's done, will DVDShrink open it and shrink normally, Or is there something I have to do first? Some have reported large areas of black video interspersed in the movie, are they contained to chapters?
My intent is to backup the entire disk, not just the movie(s) like most around here seem to do."I think I know exactly what I mean, when I say it's a Shpadoinkle day!"
-
dvd decrypter to HDD, then used shrink to back up movie only, cutting out the first little "black" part, movie plays just dandy.
-
Well, yeah, but I don't WANT movie only. I want the whole disc. Complete with the 1 1/2 hours of extras.
If we cannot back up all of it, the terrorists win.
Anyhoo, after it's ripped, VobBlanker Loves it just fine, and after the same process trick that Resident Evil needed, the black stuff is gone.
(Oh, by the by, I had AnyDVD running in the background while ripping. And not even the newest one. Not sure how that affected stuff, af at all)
Yayy!!!!
Now I'm off to shrink this bad, naughty movie."I think I know exactly what I mean, when I say it's a Shpadoinkle day!"
-
Well I ripped Forgotten and RE2 just fine. I used latest versions of DVD Decrypter, DvdShrink and then Nero6 to burn. The interesting thing I've found now is when I put the backup in my Denon DVD9200 player. ....These two movies won't start playing automatically or when I hit the play button. In order to play the movie from the beginning it is necessary to hit "pause" first then "play" then both movies play fine. I thought this was a media issue so I burnt a DVD+RW with Forgotten.....same problem. The problem then appears to be with either the rip or the reauthoring. I reauthored the main movie with no compression and cut out the rest of the menus and things. All my other burnt DVD movies work fine on the same media.
-
Ripped with dvd decrypter. Used shrink, and left the menus in.Opened up in dvd remake and setup to allow either theatre movie,or extended version.
It would not open up ifoedit. but burnt ok and worked like a charm in my toshiba player. I hope they don't all end up like this.bmiller,ont.canada
-
@donfm FWIW the dummy sectors are inserted towards the front of the video. The workaround is to edit these out in Dvdshrink and reauthor. I do this automatically because my "work" dvds are movie only. I didn't know there was an issue with these discs for quite a while!
-
i had a problem backing up "the forgotten", but i was using an older version of dvd decrypter also. So I decided to get the latest version and it copied with very little problems. the only problem i had( when i had the finished product) was the previews were choppy(studdard or whatever u want to call it). Other than that, a perfect copy. I burned to hard drive with decrypt, then used dvd shrink.

Ok, I have tried EVERYTHING here, but it seems like that DVD won't let it to be backed up!.
Checking:
DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0
Anydvd 4.5.7.2
Dvdshrink 3.2
At first, it stopped at the ripping process in 17%, after changing the settings of dvddecrypter, it went up until 99% BUT this error message keeps showing up:
Failed to patch file!
Vts_17_0.ifo
Reason: Invalid IFO/BUP
And the files are unusable by Dvdshrink.....
I don't know what else to do, it's not anymore about the backup...
It's just about beating that piece of cr@p that won't let me sleep thinking how to do it!!!

Little Update, just a few more things that i've tried:
All the following with Anydvd 4.5.7.2 running on the background:
Extract with Smartripper *** Doesn't work (47%)
Extract to files with DvdDecrypter 3.5.2.0. *** Doesn't work (17% Alone, and when mixed with Anydvd it works until 99% with the message I posted in my last post)
Changed settings of dvdd to "aggresive", "brute force -> I/O", "brute force alone", "ignore read errors" *** Doesn't work
DVDshrink 3.2.0.15 *** Doesn't work (Without Anydvd it stucks in the first analisys at 17%, with anydvd it finishes the analisys but then it stucks in the deep analisys at 50% and then error - cyclic redundant)
I tried by checking it with dvdinfopro (anydvd running, without it the program says that it's locked and encrypted) and it says at 44% ERROR LBA), one white block and then several red blocks.
Maybe it's a bad copy... or are these the bad blocks inserted for protection?
BTW, no scratches on the DVD.
What next, what am I missing?
PLEASE someone show me the light!!!1f U c4n r34d 7h1s, U r34lly n33d 2 g3t l41d!!!

I tried the DVDdecrypter ISO mode and it's stuck in the 44% with 151 read errors and 387 retries 1:15 so far.
Let's see what happens later.1f U c4n r34d 7h1s, U r34lly n33d 2 g3t l41d!!!

How long has it been since you did a nice clean install? What OS are you using?
