  1. If I have a region 2 PAL DVD and I want to rip it with Decrypter will it give me files that will burn to a -R disc that are still PAL but are now region free? Also will I need to change my region code to rip? My assumption is not but you guys know more than I do. Lastly, am I correct in assuming I can play a PAL disc in a PAL compatible player and generate an output that can be copied on a Panasonic E-50 and ultimatly transferred to -R in NTSC. Not a direct transfer of course, just eventually a DVD that can play on a non-PAL machine. Thanks in advance.
Still a few bugs in the system...

Yes, but the total of all the files will probably exceed the 4.3Gb you can burn to a DVD (unless you have the drives and blanks for dual layer).

No DVD Decryptor will rip a DVD even if it's the wrong region.

That one I'm not sure about but I suspect the anbswer is No! You will need to process the files to make them NTSC playable. Just moving them between equipments will not do the job.

  3. Thanks Duchess, I am going to plunge in a get a few of the DVDs you have available in the UK which for some reason we don't see. Had to understand why you guys get all the classics and we don't. It must have to do with your higher level of taste.

You will probably find your life much simpler if you go and buy a cheap player able to read PAL disks and output as NTSC. Getting a quality format conversion takes a lot of effort, and a great deal of disappointment.

Hmmmm! Interesting, I didn't know that such things are available. Not that I needed to know as we usually, as you probably already know don't have those sort of problems in Europe.

I do have a Philips 642 that will play PAL. I just want to be able to play it there without changing the region code. Duping to -R looks like it will do that. Then I can transfer to my E-50 and get an NTSC version for the day when my Philips dies. Thanks for the input.

The 642 can be made all-region. Just do the "789 ok 0" trick.
