Is the thomson DHT 220 just a DVD player?

If it is just a DVD, then no you can not do this. DivX is a video compression format.

To play any type of video compression format requires a the correct codecs ( codec is short for COmpressor DECompressor) to play the movie.

No manufacturer puts codecs on player and doesn't allow you to use them (the only exception it the Xbox which has built in MPEG2 Codec, but makes you pay $30 to play DVD's, but the Xbox has harddrive and a community of people creating hardware and software to allow it to play MPEG2 and most other Video formats, this is a specialcase though because the xbox is not a mere DVD player)

What's wrong with your computer exactly? Maybe someone can help.

Do you have a Dreamcast video game console? There is a Divx Player for the Dreamcast Video game console. Dreamcast also has a community of people creatting software for it.

DVD players can't run soft ware really well not anything but basic menu programing. DVD player just have dedicated processor for the codecs they already have. NOt enough ram or a strong enough processor for other functions that weren't built in.

You will have to fix your computer or go to a friend's house or just wait until you have a new computer. Or buy a DVD player that player DivX files. Lite On and Phillips both make one or two DVD player that will play most video files.

Some people say that the playback isn't quite as good as a Computer this probably because there is too many DivX versions and the standalone DVD player that play them can't be updated. But a Computer can have new codecs load for the video players on it.

You computer probably isn't in that bad of shape unless you click "OK" when pop up windows come up on shady websites. Or is there actual physical damage?

    I don't know what you're talking about.

  3. Thank you so much for the reply!!
I really don't know what's happening to my computer. when I first got it, it had Win 98, but some virus entered and a friend erased win 98 and installed win xp, and it has been working quite good for about 2 years, but suddenly , out of the blue, while coping some video archive from the CDROM to C the computer shutted down, and when I restarted it again it said that the archive win 98 couldn't be found!!
I introduced the Win 98 CD and set the computer to, when iniciating, read the CDROM, but the same error apears... It can't find win 98!!
It sucks, but I don't know what else to do!!
    Thanks anyway for everything!

    Sara!

Trying to use the Windows 98 disc was probably a bad idea.

Maybe your friend can can install XP for you again.
