  1. I need to convert DVD video files (some wedding videos) into AVI and then do some editing, and burn them back to DVD.

    I use the following softwares:

    1) Auto Gordian Knot to encode DVD files to Avi (mpeg4)
    2) Pinnalce Studio 9 to edit, then reconvert back to DVD.

The problem comes when i wanna edit them in Studio9, i was prompted that Studio9 does not support Mpeg4 Avi files.

How do i do the whole process without any problem?

I'm in urgent need to amend one of my video projects but I've already deleted the project file and I do not wish to redo all over again.

    Thanks.

What kind of edits do you want to do? If simple cuts, you'd better extract the mpeg video (and audio) out of the DVD (use ReJig) then use womble mpeg vcr to edit. Encoding to mpeg4 and then encoding back to mpeg will reduce the video quality quite a bit...

If quality is of the upmost concern (and filesize of the intermediate file is not), I'd convert them to DV-AVI using virtualdub-mpeg2 or virtualdubmod. You should then be able to import this into studio and do what you need to do.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Looking at the Specs on the Pinnacle site - it says that Studio 9 can import MPEG2 files so it would seem you don't need convert the source to AVI, just extract the MPEG2 from the DVD VOB file.

You demux to elementary streams (only way to do it AFAIK, regardless of tool used). So you have to demux the video (m2v) then the audio (LPCM or AC3 or MP2). Then you have to multiplex a+v back together to mpeg system stream (easiest method is to use TMPGEnc mpeg tools) to edit them as one.
