For single-pass DIVX batch encoding: VirtualDub, Vidomi, TMPGEnc, EoVideo, Dr.DivX (to name a few).

But for multiple-pass DIVX batch encoding, so far the only automatic encoder I've found is 'Dr.DivX' (maybe someone else knows of others).

  5. Could you explain the reason why you want to convert to divx because maybe I'm wrong but as much as I know, the majority of DVD standalone players do not play movies in the divx format. So wouldn't it be better to convert the mpegs to a DVD standalone standard?

  6. Hello and thanks for the replies. I'll look into Virtualdub. I've tried Dr Divx, but couldn't find a way to do batch.

    John,
I'm converting to divx because my televisions are hooked into my computer (via my Gateway connected DVD player), so I can stream MPEG1,2 and Divx to the tv's, it works great. But I've already got 3 hard drives that are almost full. So converting to divx would be great as it will give me more room.

In case you want to try batch encoding in Dr.DivX (or do multi-pass batch encoding) ..

After you have set the encoding attributes (you can save the settings as a profile if you want to apply the same setting to many files), go back to the 'Encode Video' screen and you'll see a 'Defer job for batch encoding' checkbox at the bottom of the screen. Click on this and press 'Encode' and the current job will be added to the 'Job List'.

On the left-hand menu of the the 'Job List' screen is a 'Single Encode' option, click this to set up another job in the job-list.

When all your jobs are set up, go to the 'Job List' screen if you are not already in it (by clicking on the 'Batch Encode' option on the left-hand menu when you first start-up Dr.DivX) and just click on 'Start' and batch-encoding will begin.

  8. bunyip,
    Thanks!
I'm going to try that...I've just started using Virutaldub with VXID codec (and frankly don't care for the results much). I think I'll reinstall DrDivx, and try as you suggested.
