I want to turn my wirelss router's wireless capabilities on but I also want to make sure only my computers can have access to the internet and not neighbors or anything. Is there a way to configure my router to do this?
    Thanks.

    Hello,

Yep it's called WEP - wireless encryption protocol.

Just set the password the same on both computers and it should work.

I have a wireless router and a wireless xbox adapter. I was able to hook the too together with the password.

I just haven't gotten my laptops wifi card to work correctly

    (there's also WPA encryption - don't know the acronym's definition though )

Well tell me what I have to do yoda. Here's my situation. I just bought a wireless access point for my xbox so I don't have a wire running across the room anymore. Obviously I have to turn on the wireless portion of my router at my computer but how do I set up the password and encryption so only my xbox and any other computers I add in the future can access the internet wirelessly?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

    READ THE MANUAL! :P

    Seriously though here you go:

Go to the networking setting on the dashboard. Then go to the advanced tab that is the wireless option.

Now you need to set the WEP password the same on both the wireless ROUTER and the wireless GAME ADAPTER. The IP should be assigned by the router.

Everything should be ok once the passwords are set. The WEP password is a 26 digit password. You can set something repetitive but don't make it too obvious. Also - change the broadcast id on the router to something like "mycomputer" or something besides the default and on the wireless game adapter too.

It will take some effort but you should be able to get it.

One more thing - Don't have any 2.4 ghz cordless phones in the house. That is the same frequency as the 802.11 B/G WIFI transmitters. I have an older 900mhz cordless phone with the 802.11 G wireless transmitter and they don't interfere with each other. You can get 5.8 ghz phones now to jump over the 2.4 range that wireless uses.

    Hello,

Access point - is it a wireless router??? If so than it should be connected to the lan port on your desktop and then the cable/dsl modem to your wireless router. Follow the router setup guides. Then make sure the passwords and configuration screens match on the router and game adapter and you're all set to go.

Well my computer is hooked into my router wired not wireless. I have purchased a wireless access point which picks up my wireless routers signal and allows me to hook the xbox up wired to the access point. Hope that makes sense. If it gets too complicated I'll just contact Linksys to help me out.
