I have a clip of interlaced footage from my camcorder, and I've been experimenting on various compressions with a 30 second clip. However XviD behaves in a very erratic way, I set the bitrate to 1400kbps yet I get a persistent 973 with CBR, and even double pass, regardless of whether I set a bitrate or a file size, falls short of the requested quality. And produces ugly artifacts.
However, DivX works as intended, and also an old version of XviD (yes, the old interface and all that) works like a charm.
I wonder what the heck is going on here. I'm sure the new XviD has heaps of improvements over the old one, but I just can't seem to get it work properly. And it often even seems slower than the older version!
