  1. Well I was in need of some disks so I went to the Bridgewater NJ BestBuy and found that they had Fuji Made in Japan for $19.99 for 50 Pc. spindles.

DVD Decrypter says: Manufacturer ID: TYG02 for the -Rs and

    Disc ID: YUDEN000-T02-00
    Book Type: DVD+R
    for the +R disks.

I took the last +R I saw, and 2 of the -R more -R left, all that I looked at were marked made in japan however I didn't look at every spindle.

    Cheers

Gotta love those TY's, I pick up Fujifilm every chance I get. Looks like tomorrow I'm hitting the local Best Buy. Thanks for mentioning the sale Tboneit!

    I have a question about these 8x Fuji's.
I'm new to the whole DVD recording game, and after visiting Fry's Electronics and also Best Buy it looks like I have permanently missed out on the opportunity to find any 25pk and 50pks of TY Made in Japan 4x Fuji's.
What I was wondering is this.
The track record for the 4x seems to be flawless
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=553#comments
while that for the 8x appears to be mixed at best
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=2191#comments

Now, unfortunately the # of comments for the 8x is suprisingly very tiny which makes it hard to gauge how representative they are of what one can expect out of these 8x.
I can still buy 4x Made in Japan Fuji's, but they come in 10pks at $12.99 (versus this $19.99 price for a 50pk of 8x). So I'd be losing a lot of money trying to stock up on 4x Fuji's.

So are these 8x Made in Japan Fuji's reliable ? Problematic ? Are there still any 25pks and 50pks of 4x DVD-Rs with other brands but that are made in Japan ?

Thank you in advance for your help

There never were any 25 and 50 packs of Fujifilm-branded 4x TY media to my knowledge; the TYG01 were always in jewel cases. 8x TY media is excellent; you should have no problems with the 8x MIJ Fuji discs. If you notice the only burners with problems were Sony burners.

I appreciate the speedy help and info.
I had not noticed that about the Sony burners -- that's the other part I'm new to is learning what trends to watch out for.
Right after I had posted but prior to your reply, I had read another post on the subject of TY discs:
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1134147&highlight=taiyo+yuden#1134147

To me what makes it frustrating to try out brands is the pricing. If you pay $10 to $15 to try out a brand of discs that ends up not being compatible with (all) your dvd players at home (mine are a Cyberhome 500 and an Apex 3201 and the DVD recorder is a JVC M10), then you're stuck with the remainder of the package.

So, at $19.99 for this 50pk, I'm trying to make a "safe" purchase with which to get my feet wet on this whole DVD burning thing.

I have had the same results with the 8x TY's as with the 4X TY's
No Problems at all, burn great in my 811s as well as my DVR 220s and play in everything I have tried.
You can tell a problem around here with just about anything when you see the same problem pop up in unrelated posts. I have yet to see that with TY DVD media. Most would say they are the best and those who dont would say they are 2nd best.

Thank you for the help. I purchased a spindle at Best Buy.
I have three more follow-up questions relating to spindles of DVDs.

1)I read a post in another thread that said that Fuji brand DVDs are frequently on sale at Best Buy. I was wondering what the sale price tends to be. On the one hand, I am feeling like this 50pk might last for a little while, but on the other hand if this is the lowest sale price that I am going to see for a long time then I'll consider buying another spindle.

    2) I found this recent thread https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=252890
that spoke of little white specs only on the first few DVDs in the spindle along with the fact that there apparently was a bad batch during a short span of time.
Was this just a rare anomaly, or does this situation with the specs on the first DVDs on a spindle occur from time to time, i.e. when I open this spindle, do I need to scrutinize the first few ?

    3) Also, I have seen people mention (problems with) "burn rings", but during a short search what I found so far was just this definition: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=248518

    Thank you again

100% Incorrect I have bought at least 10 50 pack cake boxes of 8x Fuji +'s and -'s recently and they have ALL been Taiyo Yuden without fail on the made in Japan labels. TY for .40 a disc is an excellent price.
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!

Picking Fuji as an example, when a company puts their name on a spindle of discs made in Japan and someone has great results with them and then also puts their name on a spindle made in some other country and someone has lousy results, isn't that taking on a risk of diluting the perceived quality of the company's brand name ?

As far as TY not putting out the DVDs under their own name on store shelves instead of the current situation of companies like Fuji and Maxell putting their names on TY's discs, I was thinking about it and I guess how TY benefits from this is that Fuji and Maxell are established and recognized brand names to the average consumer so that'll help the Fuji- and Maxell- branded TY discs sell better.

PC club has Taiyo Yuden 8x's DVD-R and they are labeled as Taiyo Yuden. But they are 16 dollars American for a 10 pack cakebox and they are silver top.

PC Club also sells fake Taiyo Yuden that are labeled in a strange way. The printed label says Dupesonic but PC Culb labels them as VANGUARD, but then you put them in DVD INFO PRO and they have a Taiyo Yuden media ID code in fact the same code as the Made in Japan Fuji 8x's DVD-R. These are also silver top. These fakes are definately not TY's unless they got them out of the dumpster behind the TY factory.

But I stick with the on sale TY's from Best Buy or Fry's.

I am not even sure if those discs labeled as TY's at PC Club are even real TY's I haven't tested them because $1.50 a disc is too much to gamble on.

I gambled on the Dupesonic/Vanguard/FakeTY's because they where less than 15 for 50 and they work ok in my NEC 3520 but the dye is ugly and probably won't play in a lot of players.
    snappy phrase

    I don't know what you're talking about.
