it is a 20 pack for $3.50 not 25 and they are in jewel cases. Rg02 or ty for the -R and ricoh jpn01 for the +R. I snagged 6 of each and used my $10.00 off coupon, so $32.00 for 240

  9. Two packs of 15 DVD-R spindles I got were MXL RG02. One spindle was TYG01. DVD+R are Maxwell 002. All made in Japan of course. I was hoping to get all TYG01 on DVD-R but can't complain with Maxwell either. Either way, I'm sleeping good tonight

Local office depot I went had plenty of DVD-R that were Made in Japan but not DVD+R (most of them were made in Taiwan, only found 3 spindles that were Made in Japan).

    Happy Hunting

I got the last four of the 15-disk spindle Maxell DVD+R packs in Monterey, CA last night. The ones I got were Ricoh Japan R02 (media type) 003 (product revision.)

FYI, I had trouble burning the RG03 at "MAX" speeds on my NEC 3500a. It would burn pretty fast...at like 12X+. However, I would experience playback issues on a Microsoft XBOX (early Phillips drive). Freezing, skipping, etc.

I tried burning at "8X" last night using Decryptor and everything seems fine now.

I got some that were TY -R 4x, but my kprobe scans were not perfect - but close. I get better scans when I burn my ricohjpnr01 at 2.4x. 4x isn't that much faster. What I have decided to do - at least until I get some beautiful 8x media - is just burn at night at 2.4x and not worry.

LoL. Just a heads up - but...

RicohJPN is not Ricoh Japan, as it's made in Taiwan.

  17. I bought one each of the Memorex and the Philips DVD-R. Both were labled as 1x-8x and try as I would on both I could not attain higher speed than 4x. Obviously mislabled disks as far as I can see. Oh BTW, my recorder is an NEC 8x and I always get 8x when using Fuji or Sony disks.

I guess for the price I can't complain, it'll just ake me an extra 7-8 minutes to do a recording.

Heh! I got some of the 4x +R Maxell's. Made in japan.

RicohJPNR01?!?! This needs corrected....or are they really being made in japan now too? Ugh...so much for being able to get yuden/mxl easily from seeing made in japan..

(BTW - The phillips 8x -r, are CMC MAG A01, teh Memorex +R 8x are CMC MAG E01, the Maxell 8x +R's made in japan, are MXL 002).

I just cleaned out the Indiana, PA Staples. Bot 19 of those $3.50 clearanced Maxell 20 packs w/jewell cases.

(I guess that makes me MrPig, eg?)

They are STILL out there folks. Another Staples about 40 min from me (Indiana is almost 60 min away) had 4 packs left.

Found out something interesting. Those Staples coupons at sites like www.resellerratings.com are bogus because they are reposted URLs for coupons that are emailed to people who "subscribe" to Staples. Those URL's only work for the recipient of the email, others generate bogus coupon codes. I found this out the hard way when they wouldn't accept my $10 of $40 order coupon. Of course, I had a legit Staples email at home. Oh well, have to return 19 cases and buy them back. Ugh! (Do you know how much room 19 cases takes? well, 6 of them completely fill up a "Xerox paper box."

Mine too, but I read their national ad & it stated the sale price, brought them to the counter & they scanned 4.99

Scan the discs with something like DVDInfoPro and get the media code for us. You can also check for a firmware update for your drive.

As stated I can never get speeds above 4x on these disks, but always get 8x on TDK,Fuji or Sony dvds rated 1x-8x.

My NEC 8x recorder firmware is upto date, no new issues available.

I've burnt these CMC on my Pioneer DVR-108 at 8X without problems. I would recommend trying the NEC forum at www.cdfreaks.com and posting a message. It's possible the OEM firmware doesn't support 8X burning on this media. That's happened before with other burners.
