  1. ok so i did some searching and i found couple of burners for a good price:

    Sony Internal 16X DVD+R / Double Layer/DVD+RW Drive, Model DRU710A, Retail

Samsung 16XDVDRW, Model TS-H552B/WBAH Beige, OEM Bulk

Pioneer DVR-108 Dual Layer DVD±RW Writer

i want to know which burner is fast and how long does it take to burn a dvd movie. I bought a lite-on and that thing was SLOW. so i returend it. My friend has a hp dvd bruner and he says taht he can burn a dvd in about hour. so i don't know. please give some advice

  2. You can burn a full dvd in as little as 6 or so minutes if you use the right media

I'd worry much more about quality vs speed, at least thats my opinion.

I've got the Liteon 812s, and its been pretty good- but it likes good quality media. I'm test a NEC 3500 (mad dog 16xdvd9) right now, with the maddog 2.fa firmware and it seems to like my cheap media pretty well... thats great for me.

The recorders I keep seeing people talk about are NEC 3500 series, PIONEER 108 and the BenQ 1620. The benq has a 1620 pro now, but I dont know what the differences are. Pioneer is about to release the 109 model soon, so 108's will likely get cheaper in the coming weeks. and NEC has 3520 and numerous other variations of the 3500 available.

club.cdfreaks.com is a great place to stop by and read too... GOOD LUCK
Cuban Cigars, Women and Movies.... What a wonderful combination!... I have a web site, and I've seen it... HAVE YOU!?
If you can read this, you do not need glasses

  4. They probably didn't use the right media or the dvd writer was kept in PIO mode = real slow.

Take a look at the Plextor PX-716, either internal or external. I have one & it's great.

  8. The Pioneer DVR-108 is a very good writer from a quality standpoint and doesn't require messing around with a lot of firmware sorting. It may take some extra seconds at 16x compare to some other models but the quality of the burn is what is important. Plextor is still a few firmware updates away from matching its burn quality and media compatibility.

Most places are running out of stock of the DVR-108 because of the 109 arriving. Get one while you can.

FYI: The Pioneer 109 is going to be available by the end of the month. There are several threads regarding this. Do a quick search or two and check it out.

Why would everyone want to buy up the 108's, when the newer 109 will soon be coming out? It'd make more sense to wait for the improved model wouldn't it?

No one knows how the Pioneer DVR-109 is going to perform. With Pioneer's track record it will probably be fine but you could end up in a situation like the NEC3520 who's write quality isn't up to the old NEC3500's standard yet. Pioneer also took a firmware update or two to get the Pioneer DVR-107 up to par following the highly successful DVR-106D. A lot of people bought the latest Plextor based on reputation which required a hardware revision and still needs a firmware or two to improve its write quality and media compatibility.

The DVR-108 can be flashed with the Piodata firmware and booktype DVD+R SL and DL to DVD-ROM. No one knows if this option will be available for the DVR-109. Assuming Pioneer maintains the write quality and media compatibility of the DVR-108 in the DVR-109, and I hope they do, you are basically getting faster re-write speeds (media not available), DVD-DL (media not available), and faster speed write strategies. Even when the media mentioned becomes available it is going to be expensive. By the time it is affordable the DVR-110 may be out.

I watched the price of the DVR-108 over the past couple weeks. It went up $10-$15 before going out of stock at places like Newegg.

I really do hope the DVR-109 is a great drive. Just be careful.
