I have been making mostly VCD's from my VHS tapes over the years just to save some $$ instead of making DVD's.... But now i need to m ake some high quality DVD's...]

Could some people here suggest the best applications in doing this.. most of the DVD's i want to make are 80-90 mins long. I want them to look as great as possible. I have attemped using a few diff ULEAD products such as Videostudio and Movie Factory. I cant seem to have any luck though. I know i want the rosultion bigger.. Plus on a program like the Pinnacle Studio 8.8 If i choose mpeg. it automatically chages to VCD ..dunno why...

the standard DVD templates used in either of those apps is 720x480 which is the highest you can use.

That's cause you need to choose mpeg2, mpeg can be used on DVD but it uses the VCD standard exclusivley.

As LS pointed out above there's plenty of articles and tutorials explaining exactly how and what you need to do. I suggest you start in the What Is section and read over the DVD specs.

You can't make the output look any better than the input.
