I have a Pioneer 520 set top DVR. Is it possible to make a play list
when recording from the HD to a DVD? I've looked through the maual
but don't see a way to make one....recording on DVD-R. Thanks

I've had the 420 for a couple of months and love it.
By "play list," do mean a list of recently played clips? (I'm pretty sure you don't mean a menu, because that's what you create when you finalize your disc.)
Pages 61 - 70 of my manual talk about "copy list" options and commands. -
Yes! Menu is exactly what I mean. MY guide does not show that
you can create a menu with the backgroundswhen you finalize the DVD. I finalized my DVD right after reading your response. This was the first DVD I've finalized and now I see how to create the menu. Thanks. -
Glad I could help, in a round-about way...
FYI: Finalizing is on page 57 (at least in my manual.) And since I'm posting this message, there is no option for chapter menus, only the main menu. If you want chapter menus you'll have to re-author the disc on your computer. -
Epi, I have a newly-acquired 520 as well, and am capturing from my camcorder via firewire. I've been trying to insert chapters using the Chapter Mark feature without success. The manual implies that it will work if you set the autonumber feature to "No Separation", but I did that and still seem to be getting autonumbering, and still am unable to mark my chapters on the HDD. Sounds from your post as if you've concluded that it can't be done on the 520?

My comment was regarding chapter menus, not chapter markers.
So far, I have not experienced the problem you are describing. If you are certain "No Separation" has been selected, it is possible you have a defective unit. As a possible solution, try this: Using the Chapter Edit feature, "Combine" all chapters, then "Divide" as you see fit.
The information on the following pages may be helpful: 77 - 85.
Before you give up on your machine, I'd try to conact Pioneer and see what they say.
Good Luck! -
Thanks - the Combine idea is a good one and I'll try it. I actually did get through to Pioneer support today, and they said that the only way to get the chapters marked where I want them was to insert them "on the fly" while originally recording from the DV input to the hard drive. But I like your idea better. Thanks for the suggestion.

Great! I still don't understand why NO SEPATION isn't working, though.
