  1. Hi everybody!

    I have the following equipment:

    DVD-Player stand-alone: Elta 8894 03.01.06.09 (00.00.00.07)
    Media: TDK (TTG01) DVD-R
    burner: LG GSA-4082B A208 (2x speed)
    software: cloneDVD 2.5.4.3

Very similar to one of the last threads I also have problems at the end of movies. It varies: sometimes movies work perfectly but mostly I have dropouts at the end of the ripped movies - in the best case during the credits, in the worst case after 70 minutes.

What's really annoying it the fact that I am not able to narrow down the problem. I really experimented a lot: different dvd-players (also dropouts on Sony PSX2 and Sharp DV-HR350), different media (also dropouts with EMTEC, different typs of TDK, Elta, Imation, etc.) and different software (Instant Copy, DVD Shrink, cloneDVD2).

The only thing I have not changed yet is the burner. But friends have the LG GSA-4082B and have no problems. Also on this website I did not find negative feedback on that burner. I even use the latest firmware now (A208) and set down the speed to 2x.

What partly solves my problem is the fact that I have 3 dvd-standalone players. If there are dropouts after let's say 90 minutes I immediately change the player and normally I won't have problems with the other device from 91 to let's say 120 minutes. But man, this is a bit crippling, isn't it?

Actually I'm at my wits' end now. Has anybody a hint for me?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    CU,

    Hannes

Keep the content below like 4.2 GB and you should be fine. That last 3% shouldn't affect quality much.

  3. Hi Mats!

How can I do that? I am not a complete newbie in ripping but with programs like CloneDVD2 I choose let's say 70 % and the software shrinks the movie from 100 % down to 70 % that perfectly fits on a blank DVD-R. I cannot remember a setting like "only use 4.2 GB of the media" ...

    Or get better media.

No offense, but we get a lot of "I tried different media and they all were the same so that couldn't be the problem" in here. The issue is that a lot of times you don't KNOW that it's terrible media.

Where do you live? Someone will be able to tell you where to go and what to get for media.

    Oh, and Mats:

I think that the saying is actually:

"Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll have something to do every Saturday, Wednesday afternoons, and after Church on major holidays."

I'll answer the guy anyway as DVDShrink is the easy answer to 90% of the threads here (joke )

when you start CloneDVD you will see that it says DVD-5 beside the quality bar in the bottom righthand corner. There is a dropdown tab you can click so click it. You will then see the options for the output, select Custom and then you will see a new box appear. Set that value to 4500 which shoule be around 4300MB (4489MB is roughly what a DVD blank is, why it's 4700MB is beyond me as it's probably more misleading to most so ignore it). This should take off around 190MB and result in a 4.3GB DVD

  8. Hi MackemX!

Thanks for the info concerning CloneDVD2 as this program is more likeable for me than DVD Shrink.

Yesterday I set the value to 4200 (as Mats suggested) in DVD Shrink with a TDK-DVD-R media (TTG01) and I had the dropouts again.

Maybe it's really a media-problem. My brother gave me a comp-magazine where they tested several burners and medias - for the LG-burner Verbatim, Benq or Intenso DVD-R 8x got the highest rating. Today I bought some Verbatim DVD-R 8x and will give it a try ....
