Was doing a search for info on Chronicles of Riddick and saw this:
Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix today issued an ultimatum to all distribution centres to withhold the rentals of all those who are seen to be "heavy" users. Hastings wouldn't be drawn into disclosing the actual number of rentals per month that would qualify a user as being regarded as "heavy", but said it was "a significant number". He later added that "heavy" could also be used to describe the appearance of most black-listed renters affected by the sca ......... eh egm .......... marketing gimmick.
What ever happened with this...and what was the black-listed renters about? If you get too many movies a month you're red flagged???
So they're saying the ones that end up returning all 3 movies the same day they get them or the next day are dvd piraters?

People tend to forget that often more than one person uses an account. There are retired people, those who work form home and watch tv while they work (like me), as well as many other legitimate resaons why some people can go through movies really quickly. To us the choice of enlimited rentals is to great a temptation.
I've been saying that Netflix flags us and delays our shipping for a while now. When I first joined Netflix sent me movies the day they received them. In October more and more movies started to get delayed, by November there was no doubt they were being delayed. I make sure my movies are all back by Monday. They have quit sending me movies on Monday. They are always delayed to ship until Tuesday. This has been going on for 4 months. Each time I called customer service I got a different story. Except for the customer service rep who is probably getting this complaint a lot and has an ounce of honesty. She noticed that the delay started back in November right around the time a memo was circulated mandating that those who have the 2 or 3 out at a time plans have priority shipping. So, it does not make sense to pay extra for the 5 or 8 out plan. Customer service swears there's no way to flag an account and intentionally slow down your shipping. I even had two managers tell me that. But, I found this yesterday in their terms of use proving that those of us who feel we are being singled out are not paranoid.
In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service. As a result, those subscribers who receive the most movies may experience next-day shipping and receive movies lower in their queue more often than our other subscribers.
If it's not possible to flag the accounts, how can they accomplish this little feat. That's what I hate. Netflix customer service treats us like we're stupid. I've done warehouse work and I know it's possible to give others preferential treatment. Do you really expect us to believe in the computer age it's not possible. The fact that I found this after repeatedly being told they don't do this shows what kind of company they are. It doesn't make sense to penalize those who are paying for higher plans. And, to give preferential treatment to those on the 2 out at a time plan. You are limited to a maximimum of 4 movies a month on that plan. Which means they are in no rush to get the movies back. Wouldn't it make more sense to send new releases to those who watch them quickly first. Personally, I think all members should be treated the same regardless of the plan. I also think Netflix needs to start shipping on Saturdays, if they get backed up on Mondays because of the weekend mail. Just one of the many excuses I was given.
I joined blockbuster and have found they are better. I also allow for the fact that they are new and will be opening more distrubution centers. I'm getting almost as many movies on their 3 out plan as I did on Netflix 5 out. And, that was before I discovered Blockbuster ships on Saturdays. They also work on Sunday, probably to sort mail they get late. I was surprised when I mailed a movie back late Saturday and received an e-mail Sunday stating they got it. That combined with the two free movies and the fact that I get the movies just as fast as Netflix most of the time. To be honest any delays after shipping isn't their fault. They also only make me wait three days if a movie doesn't arrive before reporting it. Blockbuster is still establishing itself and growing, which I believe means they're still improving. They've already improved from where they were a few months ago. Netflix is already established but going in the other direction.
Unfortunately, Netflix still acts like they have no competition. I'm sure when they first started it took their movies longer to get to customers and they also had a smaller selection. This reminds me of another company that was already established and wasn't concerned about competition. Coke once had the opportunity to buy out Pepsi, but they didn't think the little company was a threat. Now it's they're biggest competition. It's that cocky attitude that has been the downfall of many. -
