  1. I have recorded my own video on dvds using pinnacle studio 8 and 9 and nero. I now want to include clips from these dvds in a further compilation ie I want to re-edit my own video currently on dvd using studio 9 or if this is not possible with another software package.

How do I re-edit my own video currently on dvd?

I like MPEG-VCR for cutting clips from MPEG source. Not sure what you mean when you say "re-edit". Are you just wanting to take clips from DVDs and use them as is or are you actually wanting to changed the clips with things like filters, transitions or other effects? If all you want is to use clips for a new compilation you can just use any tool that splits MPEGS. TMPGEnc has that option in it's tools menu. As I said earlier, I prefer MPEG-VCR for this task. If you want to alter the clips it's more involved.

You can rip it off the DVD with DVD decrypter then import the mpeg's into Pinnacle, at least you should be able too. I'm unfamilar with Studio except for a few firsts attempts with it when I first started doing this and quickly realsied it wasn't for me. BTW Mpeg really isn't a good source for editing, if possible and you have the time your better of recapturing the footage if your going to be doing extensive editing.

First, use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode/no file splitting, to rip your DVD to your hard drive. Then you'll end up with one large VOB.

Second, use Womble MPEG VIDEO WIZARD (30 day free trial) to edit your files (MPG, MPV, VOB, DAT, AVI, MPEG.) If you don't want to use WIZARD, you'll have to convert your VOB to AVI. VIRTUALDUBMOD is the program for that.

Note: I'm not positive, but I don't think Pinnacle supports AC3 audio. So if any of your files have AC3, you'll have to convert those files or use WIZARD as suggested above.
