I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the "newbie revolution" given the affordability of DVD burners/recorders these days. I think this has greatly contributed to the feel of the site due to DVD (for example) not being just for those who have a genuine interest in video any more. Nowadays, any and every man and his dog can buy a burner, download a couple of tmd.cam.dix.xvid.avi files and quite a few do not really care too much for going through the learning curve as compared to those with a genuine interest.

Should burners just be limited to those who do 2 weeks of back ground knowledge on them. Everyone was a noob once. Cant expect only hardcore video burners to come to the forums. It is called video "help", not video "clubhouse".

mattyboy, FWIW please do not use your anger from yesterday to wreck another thread. You've already had someone else's thread locked, so please learn from your mistakes. That question specifically asked for MackemX's opinion on the matter, but since you've given yours, I'll give you a straight-up answer:

It is called videohelp, and that's what you get here. There is also google, for searching. There is also a guides section, for searching. There is also a FAQ, yep, you guessed it, for searching.

@bazooka, you are correct about 321 being taken to court for selling the software. It was because the software broke the CSS that made it illegal. DVDShrink being freeware doesn't make it legal to use either

The only people I have seen here who run into the flame are the ones who have no clue what they are doing, they fail to try to search for their question which I'm certain has been asked several times before. Or they are unwilling to read a guide, try the process and then ask questions.

Helping people requires that they first try to help themselves. If they can't read a guide or refuse to search for the answer, how are they going to understand when someone starts explaining the process? They aren't going to understand any terminology and have no clue, so then the help becomes a full fledged education class, complete with vocabulary words.

Noobs have to be willing to help themselves.

I don't think it was meant as a personal attack bazooka more a reaction. I had a feeling what was sent in the PM but deep down, I think it was partly the fact about the legalities and moralities that was to blame

you were correct in what you said about selling software being illegal. DVDShrink itself isn't illegal whereas using it to bypass CSS it is

on another note, most know DVDXCopy sucks and DVDShrink is better to use. Being a regular in DVDR forum I often see that some think everyone should use DVDShrink and nothing else. If they do use other or want to talk about other software they are frowned upon

if only people would ease up on the none DVDShrink users it would help
