I have a PAL DVDr that I want to convert to an NTSC DVDr.
When I open OSEx, it won't give me the option to rip the WHOLE thing. Only individual tracks. Any reason why? Am I not selecting something? I tried it all.
TIA

Hmmn... If it is DVDr then there shouldn't be any encryption. You should be able to drag the folder out onto the desktop. If you need it as a single VOB I usually use YadeX instead. I threw away OSeX a long time ago so I'm not really sure what is happening woth it, but would suggest using the latest rippers from now on (MacTheRipper and YadeX)
As for standards conversion, the best solution is DVD Converter which comes bundled with MPEG2Works. I haven't had to use it, but I have heard of good results. -
If the DVD is just a movie without any menus, just rip it into one large VOB (like pixeljam said). Then convert it to NTSC with DVD Converter. Bring it into DVD Studio ... format & build the DVD. Thats it!
If you have menus etc. in the PAL DVD that you want in the NTSC conversion, you will have to rip seperate VOB's for those menus or extras. Then rebuild the DVD in DVD Studio.
If you want to edit the DVD .. remove footage .. add new footage etc., the video output from DVD converter you can directly import into Final Cut Pro but the audio will have to be converted to AIFF from the AC3 format. You can use MPEG2WORKS for that.
Both MPEG2WORKS and DVD Converter work very nicely. I just finished converting a PAL DVD to NTSC will good results.
And do not panic if it seems like DVD Converter is taking a long time (there isn't a progress bar).... It took about 3hrs to convert my video over to NTSC. Just let it do its thing!
