  1. I'm pretty sure my subject title is confusing.....
In WinDVD and Power DVD there is a slider controll that allows one to rapidly move to a different part of the video...i.e., to scroll forward or backwards by dragging. Many DVDS allow this function but some do not.

What I'd like to know is whether there is a reliable way to enable this control in a ripped copy?

I have had some success using ifoedit and selecting "remove P-Ups." But this does not always work for me.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks!!!

For that to be enabled, you have to remove the PUOPs, and that means both in the IFO and VOB files (on occasions, VOB files do have PUOPs). M!ro wrote a small app to do that, read about it here.

Perhaps VOB puops are what are preventing this from working...

  3. Thanks Jeanl,

I did use ifoedit to remove p-uops from all files including VOB files...still no scrolling.

I might try the program you suggested by M!ro, but I'm not sure I understand how to use it. Do you think it would do a better job than ifoedit?

On another topic, do you know how to add chapters to a ripped DVD when there were no chapters present in the original? I want to keep all the original menus, etc, but have chapter points in the main movie where originally there were none.

    Thanks for your help!!!

I'm not sure how well IFOEdit does on that... Maybe m!ro didn't know that IFOEdit could do the job (I didn't know). One thing you can do is check with VOBEdit to see if you still have puops in your vob files. If you don't, no need to look any further.
I know there's a table that's needed in the IFO to allow the kind of scrolling you mention, but I do not remember which one it is, sorry I'm not terribly helpful here...
