So I downloaded a korean movie off the web (.AVI), and I used VobSub to add subtitles. Then I started the frameserver, but for some reason it wouldn't start frameserving, even after an hour it had served 0 frames. I've already frameserved one movie successfully before, and I have no idea as to what's wrong. Thanks in advance!

What did you frameserve to? I think you've got to fill in more details - this is like "I turn the key in the lock, and the car doesn't start - it used to! Whats wrong?" had this been carhelp.com

sorry for the ambiguity... I'm not too well-versed in technical jargon. I frameserved to TMPGEnc, and the file worked (I was able to watch it on my computer and burn it) pretty well.

I've tried deinstalling and re-installing VirtualDub... I've already installed the handler and I've tried using the proxy mode... I've already downloaded and installed the VFAPI plugin and the mscvr70.dll (sp?)... Nothing seems to have worked. BTW, my file's audio is in AC3... does this affect anything?

Have you installed the AC3 Decompressor? It might be best to install VDub-MPEG2 with the decompressor ... both available by clicking here.

BTW, speaking of Korean video, there used to be a real good website where you could download Korean music videos (free and "legally") called KavNET. Problem is, the media manufacturers who put the site online dropped their support for it (cost-cutting) and the guy who ran the site had to resort to "asking" for donations. Bottom line, he ended up running the site "out-of-pocket" and finally had to shut it down. Darn shame, too. It was the first site where "manufacturers" realized the value of allowing music video downloads as a loss-leader ... to get people to buy music. Before KavNET went down, I got a lot of their AVI files by FinKL, SES, BabyVOX, etc.

Could be - What is your target format? If DVD, you'd better extract the AC3, then frameserve and encode video only (select "No Audio" on the audio menu), then author with encoded m2v and extracted AC3.

I already installed the AC3 Decompressor as well asVirtualDub-MPEG2 (tried to frameserve using it) and it still won't work... My target format is just simple .AVI.
A question that sometimes drives me hazy... Am I or the others crazy?

Update: I abandoned the movie I was working with and downloaded a new one, with normal WAV audio. I'm still having the same problem (30 minutes since starting the frameserver and VirtualDub still hasn't started yet- all values in the frameserver screen are still 0). Sigh...

This makes me wonder - The reason for frameserving is to feed the video+audio from VirtualDub to another application, most often an mpeg encoder (as VirtualDub can't encode to mpeg). If you want to create an AVI, you just select "Save AVI" with VirtualDub. (First you select full processing, and your codec under compression.) If you have no "other application" to take care of the frames VDub serves, of course nothing happens?!?
