  1. hi everyone,
i'm trying to get into converting my vhs music video collection from
the last 20 years to dvd. i bought an adaptec videoh! pci card and
sonic "my dvd" came bundeled with that. i am getting nice results when
i record short videos. for the longer concerts i record to my hd and
compress the dvd files with dvdshrink to the 4.7 GB needed. Allways i use the "best quality" option. still i have 2 major problems:
    1) in "my dvd" you can add index marks by pressing the space bar whilest capturing. i use that to mark the songs on my dvd. when i have added more than 8 indexes it won't work any more
    2) especially elder videos or 2nd or 3rd generation videos run out of
syncronicity. the first twenty minutes (or so) are good, but the
picture more and more falls behind the sound. i heard that this might be from "dropping pictures".
is there a programm or plugin that comapares the length of the sound-content with the video-content and then doubles as many pictures as nessessary to keep up? (no filling in space after demuxing, because the problem is not at the beginning; enough ROM; defragmented hd; no other programms running during the recording)
    thank you for your help

You can use an audio program such as GoldWave to shrink the audio, but that won't really accomplish what you are attempting to do.

Your best bet is to trouble shoot the capture settings. Since you are capturing VHS, your resolution should be 352/240 (VHS is actually 220/296). You can capture at a higher resolution, but the quality difference doesn't offset the file size (the more data being captured...the faster the hardware needed to keep up).
