  1. HI,

I am trying to convert divx to dvd using tmpgenc plus. I have used gspot and the bitrate calculator and followed the guides. My output looks great on the computer but when I play it on the TV I get gray and green blocks (macroblocks?) when the screen is black or very dark. Otherwise the picture looks great. I have tried using WinDVD with the same results. Also, tried encoding at all kinds of bitrates (VBR and CBR), used the soften block noise and noise reduction options (they help a little), tried different burning programs and different brands of media. The problem is definately the encoding. Tried CCE and DIKO, both don't work on my comp. I have all necessary codecs installed. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

  2. What did the file look like before? Can you upload a gspot screen shot?

  3. Unfortunately the avi itself looks great in its orginal format and even after it has been converted to DVD Video. When it is played on my home DVD player on my TV it comes up with the macroblocks (during dark scenes) so I can't give you a screenshot unfortunately. Could it be my player?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

  4. It maybe your Player ,I get that alot to.

What I meant by Screen shot, was open the file up with Gspot and take a screen shot of it ,so we can see the Video specs.

What resolution was the avi and what resolution did you select for your dvd? If you increased the resolution then that could be the problem. Usually it's better to pick one that's close without upsizing too much.

IMO it is most likely upsizing and/or insufficient bitrate.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Actually not quite like that. The green and gray blocks/lines only appear during the completely black or near black parts of the file (e.g. intro) and are randomly distributed throughout the screen. They look like random noise generated and flash on an off in different patterns. I tried it on another dvd player with the same result, so it is not my player. Also, tried it with another divx file... same result. Has to be the encoding process.

The file is 16:9 (576x320) and I have tried encoding in 720 x 480 and 702 x 480? (can't remember the exact resolution but it is the other compliant) and i don't think there is any other resolution that is compliant with 16:9, right?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

  9. Did you try to precess your file with avisynth ?

    Code:
    avisource("c:\myfile.avi")
    lanczosResize(720,576)
    TemporalSoften(4,4,8)
    limiter()
Try with this script. You can replace lanczosresize by bicubicresize or bilinearresize.

TemporalSoften can be replaced by another filters too.

  10. I want to thank everyone for their help. I tried everything that you guys said. I was not able to solve the problem but seem to have been able to at least reduce it somewhat. I think it must be some kind of hardware issue as there really is nothing else left to blame. I will try encoding on a friends comp to see if I get the same results.

    Thanks again,
    Aaron
