  1. I have just copied a few of my old videos onto DVD-R format using a Lite-on Allwrite LVW-5005 recorder. It replays fine on this machine even after it has been finallised.

However, when I go to play it on my stand alone JVC XV-S332 player it does not play any sound. The picture works fine, just no sound.

Some other DVD-Rs authored on a PC work fine in this player so I don't think that is the problem of not being able to play DVD-R.

Another related question - these need to be edited further on PC to tighten scene changes and make half decent menus. I am wondering what sound settings/format should I give the video to make it readily compatiable with all DVD players (that will play burnt discs)

    Thanks

Is it possible your DVD recorder is converting the audio to MP2 on the fly ? I'm thinking your stand alone JVC might not like discs that aren't fully DVD-compliant.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Is the audio MPEG audio? That's not compatible with all DVD players.

Use AC3 if you can or PCM if you don't have AC3 compatible editing/authoring software. Nothing wrong with PCM but it takes up a lot of space.
