  1. Hi all, I've searched the internet high and low for a possible solution to my problem.

    I recently had to rebuild a computer due to a motherboard malfunction. I used the same video card, but a different motherboard(obviously).

    The thing is that now most all of my movie files wont play. I've worked with codecs plenty in the past and I'm well versed in their proper install and removal. I'm very familiar with Gspot and AVIcodec and have used them quite a bit.

    The thing is that every video that wont play behaves as if it was missing a codec, but Gspot and AVIcodec both claim that the proper codecs *are* installed. Whenever I render the file inside of Gspot I get;

    0x80040218: VFW_E_CANNNOT_RENDER

    Yet the codecs are there.

    Now it gets stranger, all the videos will play perfectly on other computers with the exact same set of codecs installed.

    All the videos will play w/o issue through Videolan's VLC player.

    It is specific to AVI files only

    It is not specific to any one AVI codec, I have some DivX files(v3,4, &50 and Xvid files that *will* play on this computer but most, I'd guess a good 75% of the ones I have tried produce the failed result.

    I've tried DivX player, Zoom Player, BSPlayer, and WMP all with the same results on any failed file, yet VLC plays things perfectly.

    At the end of my rope, I formatted and resinstalled Windows XP Pro, same result after the rebuild.

    I have had no errors or system instability other than this issue.

    Completely out of options here, I'll use Videolan, but I hate having unresolved problems, and I'd really like to use Zoom Player, my player of choice.

    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Pol
