    I want to do an encoder test and capture some screenshots. My source will be interlaced dv and my output will be interlaced mpeg2 for dvd. What is the best freeware program to capture screenshots to compare mpeg encoders.

    I don't know about best, but I use Media Player Classic. There is an option under the File menu to "Save image". I think it saves as JPEG.

  3. There are two that I have used:

    Virtualdubmod and imagegrab but the latter is only for VCD and SVCD.

    VirtualDubMod to copy and paste into an image editing program of your choice.

    i use virtualdubmod - but you can use media player classic ..

    virtualdubmod is better for compare purposes - because you can see if you are capturing a I or B or P frame
