  1. Newbie here. I tried to install firmware update v1.18 for my pioneer 108 and I got the message "available target is not found". What happened? I downloaded the file from piodata.com. Did I get the wrong one?

I have done exactly what you have done and having the same problem. It isn't a matter of double clicking the firmware update on your desktop. I believe we need to flash the drive with a DOS command, I do have the command info however I do hope another member can provide us with the necessary info to make the update.

If you have the Pioneer 108 and you want to upgrade to pioneer 1.18, you have to use the pioneer f/w, not the piodata f/w.
On the other hand, if you want the piodata f/w, you cannot flash your pioneer directly with the piodata file.

Let us know what exactly you want to do, then we'll be happy to help you.

Has anyone burned Ritek R03's DVD+R at 12x/8x with the upgraded DVR-108 to DVR-108dx?

Here is what dvdinfopro shows me.

    Media Information
    Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
    Media code/Manufacturer ID RITEK R03
    Format Capacity Not Formatted
    Free Blocks 405405696
    Free Capacity 4.38GB(4.70GB)
    Book Type DVD+R
    Media Type DVD+R
    Media Id Code Speed Unknown
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
    Data area starting sector 30000h
    Linear Density 0.267um/bit
    Track Density 0.74um/track
    Number of Layers 1

While DVD-R has no problem going to 12x, what gives?

  8. your complaining about a disc thats discontinued, and not supposed to go over x4 speed.
its just one of these write strategies that isnt going to be updated,if you wanted any speed and disc, then you should have gone for Nils 1.14 firmware

Just curious what is so great about the PIO Data firmware that makes people want to change? Also DVD Identifier shows that R03's are 8x capable. It lists them in the media section as 8x capable as well.
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!
